South African cities ranked by traffic congestion

surely it is "are getting worse", not "is getting worse" since the traffic of each city is independent of each other

sorry staff writer Myles :<

Cape Town is ranked the 43rd most-congested city in the world
Yeah well CPT is relatively tiny when compared to some other International City's, even Gauteng.

Waiting for out esteemed rulers to tell us we must use Taxi's rather than our own transport.

Pietermaritzburg 5th? It used to take me 15 minutes to anywhere.

If the public transport, particularly the passenger trains in Cape Town, which had been working 100% since 1896, then we would not have this problem

But no, this is run by disinterested cadres whose sole purpose is seeing how much money they can skim off for as little effort as possible. Maintenance is not in their vocabulary

Port Elizabeth third worst? There's barely any traffic here.
According to the article, "Inrix’s report also provides insight into aspects such as last-mile speeds — the average speed of travel within 1.6km of the city centre" ... so maybe everyone in PE just drives really slowly?

No, just badly.

But that's more of a SA thing in general.

I'm not sure "skim off" is the right phrase to use when talking about ANC Cadres. Taking 1%-2% off the top I would consider skimming, but when the bulk of the cost of a contract goes into the corrupt officials, it is more like gouging than it is skimming.

Bloemfontein? Didn't they only recently get tar roads and a traffic light?
I lived there some time back. You cannot imagine what havoc a guy with a leather hat in a white Toyota bakkie with fodder on the back can cause. They seem to drive like they are still on their farms and the only traffic and usually at 15 kmh.

People in this country cant drive. Traffic jams saves lives.

with COVID, I don't see people carpooling anymore

even with more people working from home, I still see traffic is getting worse.

Employers and property developers seriously need to consider work from home seriously.

Property developers need to make sure that they plan residences to have a home office space and employers need to actually measure staff performance, rather than assuming that people are working when they are at their desk and not just posting to some forum during office hours.
