COVID-19 does not simply cause your run of the mill Bacterial Community Acquired Pneumonia. It attacks the body in many and vastly different ways.
Tell us about them.

Remember, you're now arguing against a treatment you are now in favour of.

There so many medical experts on this forum, I feel confident asking the question here... If your hypertension is diagnosed and controlled through medication are you still at high risk of developing severe complications?
The simple answer I got was yes, it can be a factor, even if you're on your meds. It would be best to ask your Dr, as they have a much better picture of your health / age etc which also plays a part.

That's not even remotely the same thing as using steroids as an anti-inflammatory in a pneumonia treatment.
now you are missing the point.
steroid based treatment has wide ranging side effects.
while in this instance there may be benefit to be gained in the treatment of pneumonia, other organ functions could be compromised.

No. You quoted an example, a rather unique one at that, of steroids being used to promote their side effects.

It's a bit like Don promoting the use of anti-malaria meds in a very, very off label usage scenario.

steroid based treatment is often a last resort thanks to its risks.
patients regularly acquire surgical site infections (there is a distinction to be drawn between viral and bacterial infection).
steroid based antibiotics are brought out when all else has failed.

sometimes the use of a steroid based product would be akin to treating a patient suffering mild or moderate anxiety with lithium, instead of something like low dose valium.

one size does not fit all

WTF does surgical infections have to do with pneumonia or covid?

you obviously did not notice, but the common theme was steroid based treatments.
i'm trying to help you understand some principles , but very clearly failing at my task

Because you're basing your argument on a niche use of corticosteroids in surgical and other off label uses like suppressing immune systems as the primary goal.

The principle of using them in respiratory illness is different altogether.

It's like the difference between using sand blasting to remove toenail polish, or using it to remove paint from a car for respray. It works, but it has consequences.

You had me at "model"

Haha, PANDA is a group that has been pushing the government to open up more quickly. I think I will put my confidence in PANDA rather than the government models (remember their initial model was 375 000 deaths now revised down to 40 000). PANDA's model has 19 000 deaths for SA.

PANDA also giving us hard numbers so we can evaluate them:

- Peak between 23 June and 7 July
- Between 44 - 59 daily deaths will occur
