It needs to hit the townships first
Yeah we've been hearing that for ages as well. Nice of this disease to stick to the locked down suburbs instead of the townships where people have been disregarding social distancing and lockdown regulations since day one.

Yeah but that was before schools were opened

Watch how many kids take it back to their homes. It's going to be a massacre

Uhuh. What about the townships in Gauteng currently being considered hotspots? Guess it's not there yet?

It is not really possible to practice social distancing properly in such densely populated areas. Those people also need to eat, go to the shops, and often have to go outside to obtain water or use communal bathrooms etc. To say that they "disregard" social distancing is just unfair, and screams of Privilege and not realizing the circumstances of the poor.

Posting on the internet also screams of Privilege

Oh go eat a dick with that pc bullshit.

That's not an actual argument. You tell me how you would practice social distancing in a township. Let's take Khayelitsha for example - density of 10,120 people per km² (2011) - give me the solution as to how they should practice social distancing?

Start by wearing masks. Many don't. Shops were open and functioning 100% as normal for large parts of lockdown. Look at the number of arrests reported at the beginning of lockdown, of people going to shebeens and whatnot. But no, I guess not going to a bar to get drunk after curfew is a "privilege" thing.
Anyway, my point was, people weren't practicing social distancing whether they wished to or not, and we're not seeing piles of dead next to the road.

A a select amount of people (who definitely didn't care about the law and social distancing, and should have all been arrested) going to shabeens does not mean the vast majority of the people in townships were doing so. Shops in/near townships will inevitably have more customers, as there are just so many people that all need to get groceries and food just as we do - so much more difficult to maintain social distancing rules than it is for me say, as I can go to a mall in Claremont where much less people live (or to just have groceries delivered to my door).

With regard to Masks, more people need to wear them. We can agree on that front. Unfortunately the idiotic conspiracy theories that it causes Carbon-dioxide poisoning, coupled with increased complacency as time goes forward, means adherence is going to decrease more and more.

So what was your point other than virtue signalling with your political correctness tripe?

Saying that the people in the townships "disregard" lockdown laws implies the entire majority of the people living there willingly want to not obey the laws, because they don't care about the safety of others and don't care about the virus spreading. I do not believe that is true, and I believe there is a certain racist stereotype it alludes to - that people in townships are lazy, selfish etc. Not that I'm saying you may think those things, but many do.
