I see Gauteng has now left Eastern Cape in its wake as it puts in a serious effort to catch up to, and overtake Western Cape

Yup. Gauteng will almost certainly overtake the WC in active cases once today's figures are released. That's to be expected, of course, as Gauteng is a few weeks behind the WC in terms of the trajectory of the pandemic and a much bigger population.

Solely because the WC has stopped mass testing on people outside the "at risk" bracket.

The Eastern Cape was an anomaly to begin with, they are not supposed to be up there.

So WHAT happens when TERS is over? If you're still in an industry where its shut down as a result of covid?
3 months of TERS and then what? You have to starve? Can the country really survive longer than a 3 month lockdown?

My guess is some sort of permanent increase in social allowances. Lots of retrenchments, business closures forecast for the rest of the year and into next year. UIF will run out of funds at some point. Not looking great :(

You an still claim UIF for all the days / time you were not working. Unlike TERS, employee gets paid directly and unlike TERS, only the UIF rate is applicable, not the minimum wage TERS payment. Available for 6 months if memory servese right.

UIF has huge reserves so no worries there. The problem will be, when employees come back to work, while working part time (half paid by employer, half by UIF), they will actually end up with less than what they were getting under TERS sitting at home.

Try explaining THAT to them.

#COVID19 UPDATE: A total of 33 174 #COVID19 tests were conducted in the last 24 hours. There are 4 969 new cases of #COVID19. Regrettably, we report 46 more #COVID19 related deaths; 32 from the WC, 11 from EC and 3 from KZN. We send our deepest condolences. https://t.co/UAxvCnhK1a

A lot of the responses to this twitter post are thinking it's from the lockdown but it's unlikely that they would have gotten business even without the lockdown because international travelers are cancelling.
Yes and also the fact that Marriott were the operators of the hotels, not the owners. The hotels are still there and the owners are looking for new operators. Marriott simply walked away from their operator rights.

Local Greek old age home here in Orange Grove has had an outbreak. Not sure of the numbers as yet but appears it was brought in by the resident matron.
