The Eastern Cape is only planning to build a 4000-bed field hospital now? What have they been doing since the shutdown in late March? In the WC, we've already got 3 field hospitals up and running IIRC. I also recall Gauteng opening up one relatively early at Nasrec.
I hope they are planning on having an adequate amount of staff as well.

NO problem, instead of employing locals, they will fill the hospitals with Cubans and Chinese.
About three weeks ago private hospitals in East London needed agency nursing staff from PE to work there. All types of staff were required ranging from enrolled to registered nurses. Accomodation and transport was paid for and transport was going to leave that Monday. Last week, the same call but for Western Cape. Again, all agency nurses.

Anecdotally the staff in private and public are getting sick and their colleagues are overwhelmed.

Then if course we have this in public.

So yeah, hope we get the staff for the extra beds.

According to an on-screen interview with him, it took two trips to the doctor, with two separate antibiotics prescribed (for flu), before he was recommended for testing
Why would they prescribe antibiotics for flu?

They had to make sure all the necessary tenders were tendered and all the BEEs were right.

A committee to decide on the parameters of the commission, then tenders...

And once that's done, they'll start with phase 1 of the 24-phase plan...but this might be delayed, because they're already
R2.3b over budget and in fact, I hear they've already applied for a bailout -before they've even started anything :-|

As an example, look at the dwang the govt is in be cause they have spent 26 years on regulating the taxi industry. Now in a crises they still are singing the same song.

Because regularly, doctors do not test for viral infections, so they don't know for sure if it's a bacteria or a virus (speaking regular years and regular flu here) so the simply prescribe antibiotics in case it's a bacterial infection. Happens all over the world, which is why we now have drug resistant bacteria running rampant.
