Yes, those field hospitals you mentioned. There is a possibility for another 800-bed field hospital in another area of the CTICC, although I don't think that will be built as the current 850-bed Hospital of Hope isn't currently near capacity (the latest stat I saw a few days ago were that 88 had been admitted and of those, 57 had already been discharged). Combine this with the predicted peak in the WC soon (this week or next week), as well as anecdotal conversations and I don't think any further field hospitals are necessary.
Then why criticise the efforts of the EC? The field hospital they opened yesterday at the old VW plant in PE has 3000 beds available and they're planning more for the province.

BUT
"They" had nothing to do with that one. VW built it supplied it and got it running. The EC Govt will now proceed to destroy it with poor management and maintenance.

My point to Chris_the_Brit is this is just the first of several massive™ field hospitals being rolled out despite his accusation that the "Eastern Cape is only planning to build a 4000-bed field hospital now".

Yes, the *government* is only planning a 4000-bed hospital now. As @Geoff.D pointed out, the temporary hospital opened today is largely a private sector initiative with funding provided by the German government.

Cape Town has a fraction of the number of field hospital beds available and PE is doing a poor job... ok then. Fortunately we still only have a fraction of the number of cases so far, so we've got time.

Well the WC might also have more capacity in its public and private hospitals than the EC ;) ...hence lower need for field hospitals.
