As it stands, South Africa has 2,888 patients who are in isolation in general wards, 262 patients who are in high care, 539 patients who are in ICU, 218 patients who are on ventilators and 566 patients who are on oxygen.

“These figures are much lower than the 20% we had initially projected and represent a public health response that has placed emphasis on proactive, preventative medicine.

“This has resulted in some of the best Covid-19 health indicators in the world.
Is he actually saying public health response has prevented higher number of deaths in the country?

He said they still have a target of 30,000 tests per day

With daily test numbers stabilized, only the % of positive tests will be an indicator as to how much more is this spreading. It went from 2-3% at the beginning to approx. 15% yesterday.

Mkhize said the country had 7,134 ventilators and 5,401 are currently in use.

“Another 1,000 have been pledged to be donated and 733 have been procured.”
Is that a typo as 5, 401 is much higher than the total of all covid cases hospitalized??

Wow, covid still going on. Is the health system overwhelmed yet?

The next few weeks are going to be tough. If our health systems are going to get overwhelmed, it'll probably start week or so.

Starting to hear of a lot more infections in our circles., from not knowing anyone who had contracted the virus, to hearing of 6 people since Sunday, 1 of them being in our family. Of the 6, 2 died yesterday.

Yea got to admit, same in George. Was helping a guy yesterday with his cctv app on his phone, when he just drops the following, " My son who lives in the house at the back has covid". Funny enough it didn't scare me or throw his phone back at him. Just the normal flu like reaction , " Aah that sucks, hows he doing". Just mentioned he's doing fine and just using this time to be lazy.

Guess I'll know in due course if i got in contact somehow. :D

The Government said that it put us all under lockdown so that it can prepare all the healthcare facilities. We all had to comply and many of you praised the Government and trampled on anyone who opposed. It's been 80-days, so everything surely is ready to go, yes? IOL and News24 put photos of hundreds of beds in the CTICC, NASREC, etc, etc.

Why are you lot are again worried that the healthcare facilities are going to be overwhelmed? Are you saying we shouldn't trust Government?

Exactly. We know government is looking after us. Like they managed to save the economy with illegal cigarettes. What a masterstroke that was. Almost as brilliant a move as those scooter ambulances in the EC. Genius. I sure hope NDZ is our first woman president, the compassion and intellect are beyond compare.

The amount of sardines being netted in KZN is a really bad omen for winter in terms of the virus, good omen in terms of rain though

Is it higher than other years?
Pretty much, go get so many nettings in such a short period of time usually. The sardines usually follow a cold current which makes it up the east coast during winter and that current brings cold fronts usually.

I haven't paid much attention to the ocean this year but usually you can see a band of water that is slightly different colour than the rest of the ocean.

I remember when we still had a flat there on the beach close to the harbour. We would go there in June holidays and watch the massive amounts of sardines coming to shore. Awesome memories
