What is even worse, is when you read this report and the latest Minister's report together at the same time.

Then you see, that instead of addressing really serious issues such as those in the Eastern Cape, The Minister will spend time find fault with what WC did:

Turning his attention to the Western Cape, the minister said he recognised that there were some key issues that led the province to having high number of cases.

“One of the main observations was that the the provincial strategy was mainly hospicentric- focusing on case management. Intensive contact tracing, quarantine and isolation programmes were sub-optimal.”

Dr Mkhize said that since the intervention, the province has been working hard to address these gaps, “but we are receiving reports that most community members remain reluctant to subject themselves to quarantine and isolation, despite government having secured these sites in various parts of the province.”
Then the situation in the EC looks even worse. Instead of just accepting the lessons from the WC and focussing on the other provinces more time is spent on trying to make WC look "bad" presumably to try and make the other provinces look less bad.

Now there are some really disturbing paragraphs in the report on EC hospitals:

Many of them need oxygen, but there is not enough for everyone. So, those without oxygen are fighting those who do have it to try to ‘steal’ it. Sick people are fighting each other. It is literally a ‘survival of the fittest’ situation. It is awful,” said the distraught doctor.
Then what is going to happen? Patients are going to end up on ventilators instead, which is now known to be an almost guaranteed death sentence,

We have not seen anything regarding how bad it is going to get!

EC health has always been a disaster even under normal conditions. Doesn't help that everything is now happening behind closed doors.

You do know that ventilators need oxygen, much more oxygen, than a normal oxygen mask?

They'll probably argue that the R6bn would have come with an extra burden in smokers needing Oxygen. Never mind that most smokers kept right on (Clarence Carter Mainstay style).

In more seriousness though, some of the issues are the usual corruption where ANC acolytes never miss a chance for a sport of looting regardless of the circumstances. When money must be spent the ANC are like the gangsters in Goodfellas, "they'll try to steal every bit of it". In the same corner as the ANC are the unions. They see a crisis and think here's a chance for the lowly worker who can't get in on the tender action to milk the state for a bit more money. They'll call it danger pay, overtime, etc. The risks seem to evaporate as soon as you show them extra starched paper.

Incompetence and dysfunction leads to logic failure:
The level system doesn't work, proper social distancing, mask wearing and washing hands would work better. Locking people away is what caused a lot of the issues, another one was the stupid 50 people at funerals during the hard lockdown

Yup instead of just dropping to level 2, lets add more regulations to 3, or how about as the president said, put it in our hands.
Yup, let's just add more regulations to those that are now deemed invalid!!
