Probably testing backlog/late reporting?

36000 tests yesterday = 8800 cases

56000 tests today = 13600 cases

24% positive throughout
1 million tests, 240k cases - top of the world!!!!! Irrelevant...

In a tweet, Yelland said: “Eskom confirms to me unofficially that to avert manual rotating load shedding yesterday, all emergency generation resources at its disposal were used, including all open-cycle gas turbines, plus 450MW load interruption to smelters, plus some ‘load reduction’, plus some Power Alert reduction.”
And just when we thought we could slowly start returning to running our business..

At this rate we will hit 100,000 cases a day by mid August. We most likely won't have enough tests though so the "official" daily new cases will probably cap out at around 40k.

I think more important than just cases is deaths.

Total deaths we are 23rd
Death per1m pop we are 49th.

Seams like a more reliable stat than just cases when testing isn't equal.

I get 181 if I sort alphabetical, am I playing this right?

To their surprise, the researchers identified a much higher-than-anticipated percentage of people who have been infected by the virus but who were asymptomatic.

He said between 50% and 66% of adults who are infected with COVID-19 are completely asymptomatic.

In children, this is even higher – around 80% of all children who are infected are asymptomatic.

I am not sure why they are surprised or is it higher compared to other countries?

I am starting to think the facebook and twitter doctors are actually the real experts.

I keep telling you lot we must have at least 4-6 million infections in reality in SA. The posting numbers and testing game is a fools one.

Asymptomatic or presymptomatic? There is a difference. It's know that kids don't experience many symptoms but adults can often develop symptoms later. That's one of the problems with Covid-19. Symptoms and also deaths lag. That's why it's maybe risky looking at the deaths for SA now and saying that SA isn't doing to badly. SA could easily be at 200 deaths per day in a week.

That sounds too high. Look here (https://covid19-projections.com/south-africa). He is using mathematical modeling to approximate numbers. His range is 385k to 1.14 million at the moment. By Nov 1, he recons anywhere between 1.2 and 6 million.

Jep this has been known for a while .
" “The majority of COVID-19 infections are going unnoticed,” Mahdi said, adding that only around 10% of all COVID-19 cases are officially reported "

I'm sure the Prof would know the difference.

The numbers might not be completely accurate or up-to-date but they give us a fairly accurate picture of the rate of growth.

Adjusting to "actual" cases is as simple as moving the line on the graph up along the y-axis or to the left along the x-axis (same result).
Problem is we don't know by how much to move it so it's a largely pointless exercise.

There was a point where we just responded in anger, frustration and tears. We are past that point.
All we can do now is just... laugh.

It is all one massive sick sadistic joke.
