"Committee chairperson Faith Muthambi (ANC) lamented the use of a guest house owned by a relative of an MEC as a government quarantine facility.

“It was also not clear why the provincial government would use this facility to house people from larger towns far away, and whether it was properly equipped to do so,” said Muthambi. .

The guest house was to be used to admit 18 Covid-19 patients, charging R500 a day or R126,000 over a 14-day period for 18 people, noted Muthambi.

She said while the provincial government closed the guest house two days after the news broke, “up to today, it's not clear whether there was any consequence management in relation to this incident”, she said as she demanded an explanation."

I forgot this oke was president for 10 minutes.

He told News24 in an interview on Tuesday that land was a low-hanging fruit that would instantly change the fortunes of many in the country if it was addressed properly.
"Laws were used to create land hunger and we are in a position to pass laws which correct that. The Constitution enjoins us to do that," said Motlanthe.

Reason for post here - He condemns COVID food parcels being stolen.

'I have lost half my family to Covid-19'

After losing her boyfriend and stepfather to Covid-19 days apart, a distraught Pietermaritzburg woman scrambled to find money to pay for the funeral for her mother, who died on Tuesday.

I can not imagine losing so many people I love. I have only buried extended family and a few of my mates, but I have both my parents, both inlaws ect. This is heartbreaking on an unimaginable scale :( Does anyone here know them? Can we send flowers or donate to a gofundme to help with funeral costs?

Would love to help out as well as we heard about a very similar situation in extended family.. 2 family members within a week and they do not have funds for either.. We're going to help, but not enough to cover the funeral.
Has anyone perhaps heard of a possible angel donor organisation for families like these?

In my experience, one has to make contact with the reporter to organise anything if no other arrangement is mentioned in the article

Thanks, that's was a good idea. I mailed the paper, maybe it can be sent their office and they can send it on, as to not doxx the person. I don't want to invade her privacy, just want to send some light

Yeah i really feel for her as she said she has no one to turn to.. and with Covid, IIRC, you have a limited amount of time after Time of Death until burial/cremation.

Tuesday’s release came as other data confirmed the depressed state of the economy. The Reserve Bank’s coincident indicator for April, which gives a view of current economic activity, slumped 22% from the previous month and 26.8% from a year earlier.

These were the largest collapses in data going back to 1960, according to Investec chief economist Annabel Bishop.
