On my afternoon walk I passed a number of taxis. They were all just about full but all occupants, from what I could make out, wore masks. So I'm glad to see citizens taking some responsibility for their well-being...

For all those experts on the subject of infection rates, any explanation as to why the WC's value of Rt has bounced back so quickly? And does the bounce back represent something that needs the WC to take any action?

I have no idea how the calculation works but would think that, based on the data available (if it is reasonably accurate or not is a different question) that while the number of active cases (people who can spread the virus) have come down recently, the number of new cases per day have not gone down as quickly or stabalised at a higher level casing the Rt to increase (as one spreader need to infect more people to maintain a stable new active cases number).

As I said, I have no idea how the calculation works so this is just a logical guess.

Update to my previous post:

On the 28th Mediahack reported these values for Rt. This graph does NOT show the steep climb back up to an Rt of 1.16.

So there is something seriously wrong here when one website calculates the same value and reports conflicting numbers like this.
If you look at the calculated value for SA as a whole, that also does not support the steep increase in Rt ver the last few days??

I don't know for sure, but data is always 'noisy'. Rt is derived from underlying parameters, and this process will often amplify the noise. Look at weekly trends, not short term fluctuations...

But there seems to be a problem when it comes to government tenders, I don't think there's a law that prohibits friends and family from government tenders, if we want to stand a chance on this fight against corruption that's where we should start, the reactive manner of waiting for someone to get a tender and then wasting time and money investigating is not going to get us anywhere.

The long term goal should be to totally abolish tenders on useless services that government can do.

There's plenty of rules about how tenders should be awarded. Just to bad the government doesn't follow their own rules especially when it comes to emergency PPE supplies. Because it's an emergency and all that...
