Honestly I think the death numbers are skewed... tons of people passing on at home are not tested if it was covid related - I know of 5 deaths (family member friends at home) not reported as COVID related yet the entire family was diagnosed with COVID
From May 6 to July 28, more than 28 329 excess deaths have been recorded compared to 7 257 confirmed Covid-19 deaths, the SA Medical Research Council (SAMRC) said in its latest weekly report.
Health Minister Mkhize said today: "In response to reports on excess deaths, we now require that all sudden deaths and those that occur at home must have specimens taken for Covid-19 before a death certificate is issued."

Is this guy smoking crack? Testing has shrunk down from 68k to 19k a day and he calls that "growth"?

This is just stupid... reduce testing to artificially decrease daily cases and then warn us of a second wave? What a plonker.
I read another article relating to this. He was quoted to actually refer to the total number of tests.

He must actually be sooo proud, that they have actually managed to run something for this long (daily testing), albeit at a very tired rate lately

Wait , what? The Dr is waiting for directions from the politicians?
Last time the NCCC was waiting for the MAC to advise them...
No its even worse. What it says is that health will table recommendation TO the Nccc and then wait for directions FROM them...

There is no NDZ/Ace/Mabuza faction. The faction is also not getting stronger, things are pretty much where they were after the ANC election, it's like having almost the whole car while one person has the one wheel you need to get going, they have no use for the wheel but they won't give it to you.

That's how the power dynamics are, Ramaphosa theoretically has more power but the other faction is not going to make things easy for him.

So that's why Ramaphosa who marketed himself as an anti-corruption crusader when he was making his bid as ANC president was effectively shut out by Ace over the weekend...

Perhaps your problem is getting too carried away by sensationalist media reports. It is expected that in an NEC that is pretty much split in the middle reaching an agreement on things would never be easy. Things are never as straightforward as the media makes them out to be.

It always amazes me that you can identify other people's problems but not your own.

No, I said there was no Ace/NDZ/Mabuza faction, if you don't believe me ask Ace and NDZ, they also thought such a faction exist until they got a rude awakening at the conference.

The fact that they lost (very narrowly) means no faction?

So will we actually ever know how many COVID-19 deaths there were? Seems it became easy to "assume" without proper testing.
I suppose its normal if healthcare systems are overloaded and people are simply too busy, too tired and too rushed. I'm sure something similar happened in other countries.

I think locally , cultural tendencies , will lead to lots of people dying at home , without testing , for fear of stigma and isolation. I might be wrong though (not very expirienced in the local culture and customs).

That's like closing the stable door after the horse has bolted.

And to close the stable door it had to be built and fitted first, but this required a tender for both the procurement of the building material and for the labour required to fit the door.

So a stable door, which should have cost R1,000 ends up costing R16m, as many corrupt ANC palms are greased.

The door doesn't fit properly and the labourer does not have the adequate skills to fit the door.

As a result, a commission of inquiry is set up, which ends up costing the state (read: taxpayers) R48m. This was three years ago, blame and finger pointing a-plenty, no one has been arrested.

The ANC cadre who got the most kickbacks from this makes a statement to the media about how bad corruption is, while laughing his way to VBS bank in his spanking new Range Rover.

There's still no stable door.
