Not this week... Next week though after everyone has got back into the work rhythm.. Herr Doekiness and the Don will fsck everything up again.
There was an interview with one of the medical advisors to the government on tv today. He said that the current measures had not delivered the results they wanted. (As if there was some or other guarantee that the closing of beaches would do anything to the infection rates). So measures would be reviewed and tightened up until the desired results are achieved.
If a government denies something then as Sinbad says, it is probably exactly what is going to happen.

Typical hype. SA scientists will soon answer the question:
Scientists in South Africa say there is a "reasonable concern" that the new variant of Covid-19 sweeping across the country might prove to be more resistant to current vaccines being rolled out in the UK and elsewhere, and warn that it makes the need for a global roll-out of vaccines "even more critical".

"It's a theoretical concern. A reasonable concern… that the South African variant might be more resistant," Prof Shabir Madhi, who has led trials for the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine in South Africa, told the BBC.

I think more whites are dying from Covid than blacks... ANyone have any stats
The NICD stats are the only ones available.
And no you are probably not correct in your thinking. The demographics are the driver of numbers

I don't think that this is right, I know of about 50ish people that died from Covid in my hometown and towns around it and only one person was white. But then again, in my hometown I know more people that is not white than people that is white.

In Gauteng though, I know of only one person that died because of Covid related troubles and he is white. But in Gauteng I know more white people than non white people. And the Gauteng people I know is my generation, where the WC people I know is my generation and their parents.

Generally looking at the harder hit areas, don't think this is the case.

Since a South African version of her immunity was kind of exercised in the townships, would be quite interesting to see actually.

Internationally, proportionally it seems like non-whites do worse than whites. Possibly vitamin D related.

I think white people in SA have a higher average age due to a number of reasons so should in theory be higher risk but there are so many variables it doesn't help to speculate.

Forget about trying to deduce anything about SA from what happens in the USA or anywhere else in the world for that matter related to race.

Go and look at the NICD reports for SA rather.

Here is the overall reference, based on the surveillance hospitals.

WEEKLY HOSPITAL SURVEILLANCE (DATCOV) UPDATE | NICD

You might have to go back to say week 38 to find the racial breakdown figures.
Draw your own conclusions as to why this change in reporting has happened.

Predictions?

I mean, the infection rate is lower than last week. Why call an urgent meeting.
Maybe close more businesses, borders maybe.

It seems the NCCC always meets based on figures anything up to 14 days old.
Also they refuse to accept the futility of their current measures in curbing the spread, so out of pure panic, they are now back in shotgun mode.
