About 1.5 million healthcare workers have been prioritised to receive the vaccine in mid-February.

They will be followed by 2.5 million essential workers, consisting of police officers, teachers, miners, municipal workers, workers in the security, retail food, funeral, banking, essential and home affairs, border control and port health service.

Another 1,1 million people will be vaccinated in care homes 60 years and older, people older than 18 years with co-morbidities, detention centres, shelters and prisons. In addition, people working in the hospitality and tourism industry, and educational institutions will be vaccinated.

All those groups are only 1.1 million people ?

Having secured for 10% of the population, we have embarked on other efforts to get the rest of the 57% of the population to be targeted by the end 2021.

So by ANC standards, around 2023 ?

TUs in the alcohol industry have kept very quiet, probably because their members aren't in the firing line...yet.

I'm going to guess they were told in the last week that they are going to be in the firing line very soon unless they start making some noise with their political masters.

Could be. While their members aren't on the chopping block when it comes to job cuts, they're happy. Receiving their monthly fees while their members are doing nothing.
Now that they're talking possible job cuts (I mean, they've been saying that for a while so it's not exactly news!) and they have seen what...R12 billion gone in investments between ABInbev (SAB) and Heineken, they realise this is quite serious.

Hmmm, seriously compromising the elderly, I see. I wouldn't be surprised if, for many of the elderly, the vaccine may be their last injection ever - especially those with co-morbidities.

A little birdy told me that would be the case.
Let's hope so. Personally those 2 things don't affect me too much. I'm not staying close to a beach and I have enough booze to last me a few months. I must add that I don't drink a lot.

Some of these regulations are just causing irreparable damage to the economy and the country.

Government budgets for vaccines have at times pencilled in a 1:2 subsidy, where every medical aid beneficiary would effectively pay for two more people to get vaccinated, on top of paying for their own shots. At the very least, the government indicated, it would expect a 1:1 ratio.

That would make medical aids paying for everyone in SA, while the government looks for tax increases to 'fund vaccines'.

What about the 20m doses they are supposed to have secured from pfizer? That's 10m people right there.
Today squirrel said they are only receiving 9 Million doses, maybe he meant enough doses for 9 Million people. Or maybe it's 20 million doses including the vaccines that are going to be manufactured locally
