Only those who ignored lockdown, which seem to be the majority. Says a lot about the effectiveness thereof.
You mean says a lot about the futility thereof? If everyone strictly obeyed the rules, we would be like NZ. One year later, still here, waiting with trepidation to see what sort of mutated version is going to come in and nail the entire population?

The Spanish and the Incas spring to mind...

Without GP and WC numbers this doesn't mean a lot. And, it seems this implies (imho) that some groups adhered to the rules more than others.

The danger is in my opinion, that our half hearted attempt at vaccinations will trigger rapid mutation of the virus which will then mean that the numbers previously infected naturally as well as those vaccinated will mean absolutely nothing.
Viruses will mutate irrespective of necessity and the possibility of mutation and diversity increases with each cell infection cycle. Having been administered a "half hearted attempt at a vaccination" or having natural immunity wouldn't make much of a difference to the possible outcome of that mutation if it were not susceptible. As for the numbers, each confirmed case has medical history which would included treatment (or vaccination) records and thus not make much difference to the numbers.

No, it means some groups live in conditions that make the measures more pointless. It's been found worldwide that prevalence is higher in poorer communities where people live in cramped conditions. In South Africa you have the addition of things like malnutrition, lack of adequate sanitation and so on.

Socio-economic factors. Some groups are more equipped to socially distance and keep clean compared to other groups. It's much more difficult if you're a family sharing a shack with no running water, for example, than if you're a couple living in a 2 bedroom house with full amenities. It's no coincidence that the poorest province has one of the highest death rates and now, highest immunity.

The highest recommended comment. A bit too rosy for my liking but I get his/her general point that at the moment, our lockdown regulations are very light compared to Europe. Very true about the hyping of the SA variant in the Pommie media.

Zimbabwe to vaccine before us.
Never laugh at them again

It's a race to the finish:

A plane carrying Zimbabwe’s first coronavirus vaccines, 200,000 doses donated by China, arrived in the capital Harare on Monday.

80 000 Johnson & Johnson vaccines that will arrive {in SA} today, will be administered at 16 hospitals around the country {tomorrow}.

So their initial rollout is now going to proceed as a "trial"?
Nothing like a bit of pressure being brought to bear to get the " rules" out of the way?

Must have been interesting in the behind the scenes meetings and debates, yesterday.

Why does it feel like the situation is being engineered to benefit Sinovac & Sputnik
... waiting for SAHPRA to come out and tell us that Sputnik & Sinovac are 110% effective against all variants

Yes! The authorities are so busy protecting their backsides that they forget the fact that all these "delays" introduced while they argue about trials, test results, paperwork, peer reviews etc, are costing lives every single day.
Clearly, if we take into account the brief look we got into a session yesterday about emergency approvals for the roll out of the J&J vaccines we are supposed to receive today, that some very harsh and bitter words were exchanged. At least, we hope now this rollout will proceed as tabled and scheduled.
