Lockdowns hardly seem to make a difference anywhere from where I'm standing.I never said lockdown was the only variable involved

Depends what you mean by 'make a difference' - lockdowns slow the spread of the virus, doesn't stop it and may not ultimately lower the number of people who will get it, but it does slow it down. This gives health services more breathing space to cope with the numbers, and also gives time for more people to get vaccinated. The only way the virus can spread is through the interaction of people - decrease the amount of interaction between people and you decrease the ability of the virus to spread.Lockdowns hardly seem to make a difference anywhere from where I'm standing.
I think we're beyond any of these reasons meaning anything in the South African context. Way beyond.Depends what you mean by 'make a difference' - lockdowns slow the spread of the virus, doesn't stop it and may not ultimately lower the number of people who will get it, but it does slow it down. In other words, in pleb speak, the spread is delayed.Depends what you mean by 'make a difference' - lockdowns slow the spread of the virus, doesn't stop it and may not ultimately lower the number of people who will get it, but it does slow it down. They all looked in the picture of health. One leg, no teeth...What flu? The article seems to mention covid?
Sorry Geoff.D, but as others said... If you need protection, protect yourself. If all these measures work so wonderfully, you will be OK. If not, what are we then talking about??So long as only he has to live, or not, with the consequences of his assessment, and not affect anybody else.
Of course it goes both ways. But it does not excuse being so stubborn about the whole issue.Sorry Geoff.D, but as others said... If you need protection, protect yourself. If all these measures work so wonderfully, you will be OK. If not, what are we then talking about??
And if I must change my behaviour in order to protect you from covid, then I must also do so with flu, tb and other communicable diseases that might harm you.
Experts here have established that covid is flu. Are you new here? What flu? The article seems to mention covid?
You have to admit that there are quite a few similarities.Experts here have established that covid is flu. Are you new here?
A large portion of those that get it don't die. Symptoms are similarYou have to admit that there are quite a few similarities.
I mean infection by both viruses can be prevented by avoiding indoor spaces, avoiding poorly ventilated spaces and AC environments, doing things outdoors, wearing masks and avoiding crowds.

I'm surprised the news is willing to present the other side. Previously they simply ignored any evidence that immunity could last a long time. Here we go. The hype building up to try and justify not giving booster shots and even abandoning the vaccine programs.
And hiding it all in some more hard to believe given the previous and current hype so called peer reviewed studies.
Farksteaks old man, you're starting to lose the plot entirely here. Side-effect of that 'mectin you been sucking down? Here we go. The hype building up to try and justify not giving booster shots and even abandoning the vaccine programs.

Lockdown has become a meaningless term. It started out as meaning closing everything and confining people to their homes, but now an endless variety of things get called a lockdown. We even had people trying to pretend Sweden had a lockdown (when attempting to explain why their deaths were so much lower than predicted) or pointing fingers at Sweden for not having one (when seeking to justify why it is important to have one).Lockdowns hardly seem to make a difference anywhere from where I'm standing.
