So not over a 24 hour period than? Sigh more fear mongering by making it seem like that is the number over the 24 hour period, so the positivy rate cannot be taken for that than. Unless they only did 53k tests over the same period.
This is why you can't trust any of the b numbers as you don't know the testing criteria, waiting period for results how they are calculated and such.
Yes and EWN again 'forgot' to mention this to their audience although I note people in the comments have wised up to the media's fear-mongering agenda:

Not only EWN, the health department as well. So now how many tests were actually done a day. Also if this is a 6 day back log, how many days backlog on the previous ones?
So also the health department needs to stop using the 30% positive rate per a day, as those aren't the truth.
Once again it's all a joke and we don't get told the truth.

No. They don't suffer from African mentality.
So we ok with Chinese and Russian vaccines? If memory serves me right...all countries mentioned are either going the Chinese or Russian route...

Argentina and Mexico are getting the Russian vaccine, and some are getting the Chinese. SA for a change is going for approved vaccines , which passed all the trials.
Ok thanks for the information - I thought given the proximity to the US - the storage requirements not withstanding - they would be administering the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines. I will certainly not be taking any vaccine produced in Russia or China.

The Oxford vaccine looks most promising for us in SA in terms of cost and storage requirements.

Does anyone remembers what SA needed to pay for the vaccines for 3-10% of the population? AZ vaccine comes to around R50 a shot, and I have the feeling we will be paying ridiculously inflated prices.

Which would be in those results, as those results were from the 23 to the 28th so not over a 24 hour period.
We all know by now that results can take a few hours to a few days... Some cases never

You can only get tested if you show symptoms or are at higher risk. If your family got together on the 25th and 26th, those who got infected will only start showing symptoms around today and start getting tested now.

I wonder if any vaccines will be made available earlier privately?
Not 'over the counter'. Discovery will try to buy for its members , might manage before the government.
AZ is intending to make 3bn doses 2021 , that is 1/4 of earths population.Canada ordered enough to vaccinate every citizen 5 times, UK x3 , USA at least x2.
Don't know the production plans of Moderna and pfizer, J&J might get some results soon, then is Novavax on the horizon.

My predictions , beggining of 2022 , the developed countries will start dumping vaccines in Africa, as they usually have to be used in 6months.

OK so you can only get tested with symptoms or at a higher risk, so you're telling me only 30% have symptoms while 70% are just higher risk?
Cause if you're actively looking for something you're going to find it.

You are presuming that all the tests are done on the 'general population'.Medical staff needs to be tested often. Also I bet if a person in government/police/ha and so on gets sick, everyone around will be tested. Then you have testing for getting in private hospitals, testing for traveling and so on.

Anyone know by what number of days roughly our stats are behind? We’re still posting high numbers of cases but that’s prob from before lockdown still trickling in. How far into lockdown before we see things settle? A week? 2 weeks?

Is South Africa going to manufacture any of the Oxford-Astra Zeneca vaccine? As far as I can tell, it will be manufactured under licence all over the place, including South America. Can our pharmaceutical companies not also manufacture it?
I believe they are looking at it - wasn’t minister of health quoted as saying we have manufacturing capabilities here too?

honestly I think COVAX is also a bit of a “we better do this to look like we’re supporting WHO and playing well with the others” move. There are other plans in progress in govt and private sector and a combo of the two.
