There are people who had bad side effects from Polio vaccines too. Should we re-introduce Polio and stop vaccinations? There's always a small % of risk in any vaccine. It should not excuse the 99% who will benefit from it. Also, people have a choice not to accept it if they feel the vaccine poses a higher risk than COVID-19, but lets not Karen-ize what is a very good vaccine considering the time it took to make it.
That is why each patient needs to have the freedom to choose to be vaccinated or not and each patient's medical record needs to be taken into account.

Many South Africans will swap firecrackers for candles to mark New Year’s Eve amid COVID-19 restrictions including a nighttime curfew.
Instead of ushering in 2021 at packed events with dance music and fireworks, many South Africans are responding to President Cyril Ramaphosa's call to light a candle to honor those who have died in the pandemic and the health workers who are on the frontline of battling the disease
And here I thought it was load shedding

:D that is what they are hoping for.

Around here I can hear the parties going, not a candle in sight until Escum turns off the lights.
I am sure these people will heed the call to light candles and go to sleep when Groot Bek Cele says so ............. not.

This is a bit odd given the WC's own dashboard which indicates things stabilising pretty much throughout the province on both case and death numbers. I think these go up to the 28th, so perhaps he has newer numbers to hand given Christmas day festivities, but when I look at these charts it would appear we are "turning the corner":
Well, in my case, I have just heard of two friends who are just coming out of isolation. The husband of another friend has it. My bro-in-laws boss was diagnosed with it on Monday. Others - still waiting.

you really are as dumb as chalk eh.
It was never about your health.
It is about creating fear, anxiety, panic.
oh look, empty hospitals UK-side, contrary to the official 'narrative'

Any pics of overflowing hospitals in SA?
Thought not

Showing a video of several empty wards is like showing a picture of happy kids from the early 1940s and then claiming WW2 was a hoax. That so many English people buy into this... is just silly.

You are possibly correct. However, the Gloucester Royal Infirmary is a respected and sizeable NHS concern and the lack of patients we see in this video raises questions. The first being that it appears to be at odds with an official narrative. And the source is arrested?

C'mon man! as JB emplores us. A true narrative is strengthened by the light of critical enquiry. Conversly, false narratives shy from that same light ne?

Happy Easter everyone!

I had to pen this this too; the official narrative, 'overflowing hospitals, strained to the limit etc' is being used in SA, the UK and elsewhere. To justify taking your civil rights. It should matter to us all that this comittment by justified. I mean, it's Life and Death eh?

I still disagree and am not convinced.

It's not necessarily true that anything is afoot. Because from the video I saw a waiting room and maybe one ward... and that can all mean that....

1. This hospital's staff have been moved elsewhere as there are shortages in other hospitals.
2. The wing of the hospital has been closed because elective procedures have been cut.
3. The hospital now services non-COVID patients and there are not many of those as they are diverted and discharged.
4. The hospital is being kept in reserve.

In fact I could give a good example from our own SA. Back in the 90s Tygerberg Hospital had entire wings closed. Empty wards by the dozen. TBH was built to service the white and coloured communities so was duplicated and much redundancy was included given that the NP regime probably wanted to use the hospital as a military hospital in case of war or severe unrest. But if you were to take pictures of the empty wards you could argue that hospitals stand empty and there is ample room to admit patients which was not the case as there was not enough staff to man the entire hospital.

In South Africa, the big state hospitals are pleading for medical volunteers. This has NEVER happened before.

I would not take one video as anything. If these were many confirmed videos of ICUs with staff sitting around, with ambulances idling, with crews eating dougnuts from a variety of hospitals then I'd say maybe something is afoot. One video means nothing. We can all find pictures of happy children from London in 1940 and say the Blitz never occurred - it was all a hoax.

Now why would a government bust this woman? Well because she is spreading misinformation. Many people will latch on this video and perhaps break protocols. This is not good and so for public good and order they are doing what they are doing. The UK and Europe don't have as much freedom of speech as the US has and maybe also as SA has.

Oh yeah Happy New Year.

My civil rights, if they are to be taken, will be taken regardless of COVID or not. Taking measures because SA has a real doctor shortage and the province also treats medical personel badly is a good thing. Take Winde for example, he said they'd re-hire more staff - on contract. It's as though there are nurses and doctors laying about and they'll hire them for 2-3 months and then tell them to sod off and go abroad or do locums? Seriously. Cynicism at its best. HOD's however are calling for volunteers.

Found out my regional manager has covid and his wife. The children aged 15,16 and 19 show no symptoms.

He felt bad a week and a half ago, that Sunday he went in for tests, that night he got it back. Since then he said it was downhill from there for him and the wife. They thought they were dead each night, lungs felt like they were collapsing, body was so sore that he couldn't get out of bed to at least wash himself. Kids had to help. His voice was gone as well for the week.

He phoned me yesterday, seeing that his voice came back that morning.

I thought he was taking extra leave  meanwhile he's been down for the count.

Saying that, my wife's cousin has it as well, she's experiencing only severe headaches and body aches. And she's quite a big girl with a few underlying conditions.

My wife is isolating, she has body aches for the last 2 days. Hopefully it's only the stress and bad sleep she's been having the last 2 weeks.

Another one! Where are these people coming from?
George hospitals are quite full, but not overflowing.

Our cases have been rapidly declining as well, last i check it was 1300+- active. This is from a peak of 2500 active for quite a few weeks. Since Sunday the cases just started declining..

But with that said, other areas like Cape Town etc. are increasing.
