Do medical aids offer some sort of wearable to indicate membership? Someone I know almost didn't get taken to the correct hospital because the paramedics didn't know what medical aid and what plan he was on. Then once he got to hospital and ICU, the medical staff wasn't aware of a couple of important pieces of information relating to his medical history, they only found out a week later from family members who didn't realise that the medical staff / hospital were unawares...

I don't know about anything wearable, but all medical aids seem to give out membership cards and some give out stickers for car windows.

Not seen such but you could always make your own medic alert style bracelet with all the required info.

Friend of ours got it. He's self-quarantining.
Seems to be over the worst now.
This thing is real.

Interim data from the ENSEMBLE trial is currently anticipated to be available by the end of January 2021. However, as this trial is dependent on disease events, the timing is approximate. If the data indicate the vaccine is safe and effective, the Company expects to submit an Emergency Use Authorization application to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in February. Other health regulatory applications around the world will be made in parallel.

In addition to the single-dose regimen ENSEMBLE study, Janssen has now initiated the two-dose regimen ENSEMBLE 2 trial. ENSEMBLE 2 is a complementary, planned, pivotal, large-scale, multi-country Phase 3 trial that will study the safety and efficacy of a two-dose regimen of the investigational Janssen vaccine candidate for the prevention of COVID-19 in up to 30,000 participants worldwide. The ENSEMBLE and ENSEMBLE 2 trials will run in parallel.

While a potentially safe and effective single-dose preventive COVID-19 vaccine would have significant benefits, particularly in a pandemic setting, Janssen’s COVID-19 vaccine program has been designed to be extremely thorough and driven by science. As such, we are investigating multiple doses and dosing regimens to evaluate their long-term efficacy.

The Phase 3 ENSEMBLE and ENSEMBLE 2 trials follow positive interim results from the Company’s ongoing Phase 1/2a clinical study, which is studying the safety profile and immunogenicity of both a single-dose and two-dose vaccination. The interim analysis showed that a single dose of the COVID-19 vaccine candidate induced a robust immune response and was generally well-tolerated.

Posting this , because it seems to be the one government is betting on?

Is 2021 going to be worse thar 2020, now that people are starting to get sick more at an alarming rate and government already spent all the Covid funds which was never properly used to prepare for what was expected?

Is South Africa not worse of now than before?
I'm hoping that the rates start to drop a few weeks after the holidays end. It's not suprising that it's increased during this period.

You're supposed to keep your medical aid card in a prominent spot in your wallet in case a paramedic needs to find it.

I'm hearing some horror stories from a neighbouring neighbourhood, since Christmas there is at least one person dying everyday.

The planet is not trying to kill us. We are killing the planet. My bets are on the planet in the end. It is rather enduring and would ultimately do best without us...

The human race may make up the next carbon layer. Wouldn't that be ironic?

Anyhoo, going to go watch the Germans fight the English in submarines circa 1943.

Yeah, we don't have the technology to kill the planet. BUT we have the technology to do damage the planet such that it becomes uninhabitable to ourselves.

Yeah one could craft one's own medic alert type bracelet. I think the problem comes in though when you have some confidential medical conditions that you don't wish the entire world to be able to see or figure out.

I see MedicAlert has a monthly fee of R37 attached to it, and I suppose that is the cost of bringing attention to the fact that you might have some pre-existing medical issues but with some form of confidentiality.

They do medical style bracelets and is customizable.
Nice

Can anyone suggest a good way to etch important info into the wristband of a fitness wearable such as a Fitbit wristband?

Yeah, so in the specific example that happened to the friend of mine, the paramedics rocked up at his place, and he wasn't able to communicate himself, and his parents I suppose in a panic weren't sure of anything around his medical aid info. Until the paramedics could find his medical aid membership card they weren't that keen to just take him the the nearest (private) hospital. One of them did manage to find it in his room eventually.

edit: Apologies for the derail...

Neighbour's son (27) taken to hospital last week with severe breathing difficulties. His Medscheme card was with him. There is a symbol on the card that denotes mild allergies, but he did not warrant a bracelet as it was deemed to be not severe

All the admin staff did was to note the membership number and notify Medscheme. They only discovered 30 hours later that he is allergic to certain powerful antibiotics. His father called Medscheme, very annoyed. They said they had called the hospital 4 times and reached someone who apparently wrote down the allergy information incorrectly. This person wrote his name down as CLEGG, meantime it is LEGG. Since there was no patient named CLEGG, they did not follow it up

He died on the 3rd day from massive organ failure. Now the hospital is pointing to their Ts & Cs and washing their hands.

Where did you see that?

Eyewitness News: Mkhize: Govt to target 67% of S.Africans in COVID vaccine rollout.
"The vaccines will need to be made available quickly so that most of our citizens are covered by the end of the first year of rollout - this year"
