At 274 cases, we are well below the expected trend. That is a 14% increase from yesterday. This is not expected.

We are at more than 9000 tests, though. That's somewhat positive.

We can beat this like China and SK. The government has finally gotten its **** together. Must say I've been impressed with the way they are handling this crisis.

I posted the below in the SA Corona thread - excerpt below.
Our numbers are so far behind ....
Just got news -
A colleague at the SO's work has just been confirmed as positive. They have put the office on lock down and advised all staff to work from home and isolate (SO has been at home since Thursday).

But what concerns me is the course of events -
Staff member felt flu symptoms on TUESDAY and went to the Doc. COVID-19 suspected and test were run on WEDNESDAY. Results advised this evening, SUNDAY. Therefore the test results of our numbers are 4 DAYS behind.

Still no update from the NICD.

Meanwhile, this is happening now:

Let them go ahead with that. It will be the only way they will understand why.

So first death by mid week? Maybe tomorrow even given the delay in data.

Italy

When hospitals run out of ICUs and doctors and nurses are stretched out, age will be less relevant.
Italy's median age is 47.5. Let's do a thought experiment.

Half of Italy's population is older than 47.5 years, and their growth rate has been way below replacement rates for a few decades now. 70% of the deceased in Italy are over the age of 70 years.

Hell, if people over the age of 48 make up half of the total population, you can just run the numbers. By the time this virus has run its course, assuming the peak isn't anywhere near close, they could be looking at losing as much as a third of their population.

The chart below is the distribution of COVID-19 cases as of 21 March in Italy.

nah maybe late week or next week. chances are deaths might not even be linked if the patient has previous conditions/morbidities and is at a gauvamint hospital

Do you honestly believe he's just sitting around fiddling his thumbs?

Mybb is full of experts, getting tiresome reading through all this drivel. Just wondering why none of you are actually pursuing a career in politics? You all seem to be able to do a better job.
Use the ignore function, that’s its purpose, but yes I do thin he’s just sitting around.

I was impressed since the moment I saw the minister cough into his elbow. But I would be extremely surprised if we are on top of this.

I believe without evidence that we have had deaths, they have just been misdiagnosed / untested.

Agreed. Having said that, all this sanitising and distancing will lead to a lot of "normal" flues and colds, plus high-pressure-squirts type things being eradicated for a while.

Don't believe those Government figures.
There will always be an offset between confirmed cases (tested positive) and the actual number of infected.

I also don't think that the assumption that COVID-19 arrived in SA on March 5th is entirely accurate, especially when it's clear that some people show mild to zero symptoms (not even elevated body temperature), it could be long before March 5th but that is all very academic and somewhat pointless pursuing now.
