Ok guys, here's the deal. We all thought that only those who had travelled internationally were carrying this virus two weeks ago. Not true at all!!! Actually, it was only those people getting sick and getting tested. Because that was the criteria. And slowly we saw cases and all said they'd been outside the country.

So we felt safe. Felt brash. Went on with our lives. It was only a handful of cases and we'd certainly not been out of the country, so what's the harm?
Schools were still open, extra murals still happening. Just remember to wash your hands every now and then. We'll be ok.

I've now had to get tested. I got symptoms on saturday 14th march. I laughed them off. How could I possibly have been exposed?

As the last week wore on and I continued feeling ill, I washed my hands and did the sensible thing by staying home.

I phone the helpline at one point. Was told to continue as I was. I didn't have a direct link to someone who'd been out of the country. It was likely just seasonal flu.

One week after I got symptoms (21 March), I got a call from a friend. She hadn't been out of the country. She hadn't had contact with anyone who had been travelling. She'd consulted with her gp about flu like symptoms that she'd had from the week before, that weren't letting up, and the gp had told her that it was just seasonal flu. She decided to get tested regardless. Turns out she has covid-19. Turns out she was contagious the last few times she saw me... before the school's closed. Before we were meant to start social distancing. When it was "just people who had travelled".

When I went for testing, I had to fill out a form with everyone I had seen for a whole week before symptoms started. Because I WAS CONTAGIOUS, even then.

I don't have results yet, but as I wrote each name down and tried to wrack my brain for every normal thing I did that week, I felt horrible. I hadn't taken this seriously enough. I could be responsible for multiple deaths.

Sounds extreme, but it isn't. Every person who gets this will be contagious before they even know they have it.

Yes, I will get better, and then I'll be immune. That is not the issue. Even if the people I saw get through this, the people they saw might not... or the people that those people saw might not.

I can't know how many people I've passed this onto in the long run. I can't know how many deaths I might be responsible for.

My point? Stay the **** home. Don't think this doesn't affect you. Don't think that when the death count goes up, it has nothing to do with you. This virus is out there and you can't know whether or not you have it. You can't know if you've spread it to others already. You just can't know, so be reasonable and stay away from others.

We were already there three weeks ago. It will only get worse. You are not immune.

Follow the rules set out by the NCID.
Don't be an assehole!

Do you honestly believe he's just sitting around fiddling his thumbs?

Mybb is full of experts, getting tiresome reading through all this drivel. Just wondering why none of you are actually pursuing a career in politics? You all seem to be able to do a better job.

Time to disengage and take a breather from this cesspool. It can become a wee bit too much,..Everyone is entitled to their opinion, and that is just it, an opinion... no matter how ill informed it is. There has however been a general downgrade of the usual circle jerk crap on here, ...when reality comes knocking, bravado or any other form of hubris evaporates pretty quickly. Stated before, what the the state has done so far, has been impressive...compared to what the US,UK has to deal with....including Brazil now as well. No country can adequately prepare for a ****fest like this - with an ailing economy and a society that has generally been under the pump for so long, not withstanding the genesis of our decline, the state has been rather well organised. If the architect of our decline was still in charge, we would be royally ****ed. CR is a leader that consults and tries to lead through consensus - that can be frustrating at times, but I would have no other person in charge at this stage.

Count the posts in this thread I made. Come again? Go get some air, works wonders.
No need, I’m chilled. If you want to flagellate this government go ahead, but everyone is entitled to their opinion. As I said, use the ignore button if you can’t handle comments about the morons in charge.

You don't seem to grasp it. What is the title of this thread? News and updates, correct? I don't see the word drivel in there.

You don't seem chilled - all you do is moan about the morons in charge. Again, if you can do a better job, do it. It's highly annoying having to filter through 99 posts of bullshit talk, just to get to one post that actual carries some news or updates. That being said, you're on ignore. Ciao

I also don't think that the assumption that COVID-19 arrived in SA on March 5th is entirely accurate, especially when it's clear that some people show mild to zero symptoms (not even elevated body temperature),

March 5th is just the official date that the outbreak was acknowledged. Before then, NICD had been screening and even testing people since 23 Jan.

Except it is. Once you have the antibodies the virus can no longer infect you.

Yes and no. The virus can't do as much damage to you because you now have antibodies at your disposal.

The virus is Greedo. Your immune system is Han, only it's Han from the original theatrical release and not VHS.

First case down here on the South Coast - the guy returned from Germany on Feb 29. Only tested and confirmed positive on the March 20. Remained asymptomatic throughout.

You really need to find a more efficient method of gathering your news. The abysmal 1% success rate you are experiencing is directly related to your failure to understand that this is a discussion forum not a newsfeed. Clue: 'Coronavirus (COVID-19) Discussions'

Goddamn, almost three weeks? You need to find out what gives him such a strong constitution. Obtain his blood!
