More likely it was just cases in the backlog. They only managed to do an additional 900-ish tests over Sat-Sun, so I think it is:

1) A huge backlog
2) Courier transit times

Yep. That bitch needs to be found. According to the new gazetted laws, she's facing jail time.

That ****ing cuntbitch could be SA's patient 31. Jesus, throw a ****ing book at this bitch!

The infection statistics are important in terms of understanding the progression. We aren't yet at the stage of deaths as we were relatively late to the proverbial party, luckily enough. The weeks to come are a completely different matter.
The point is that testing results isn't an accurate indication of infection progression.

Yip. Stupid but yip.

The initiatives which we have implemented include the following:
  1. Sun International will continue to keep its hotels, resorts, restaurants and casinos open;
  2. Making hand sanitisers available at all entrances to hotels, casinos and conference areas. Hand sanitisers are also available in staff areas;
  3. Increased cleaning of surfaces in public areas;
  4. Enhanced cleaning of high touchpoint areas, for example door handles, escalator handrails, slot machines, casino tables, elevator buttons and card machines. We have also increased cleaning on Sun City Resort's shuttle busses;
  5. Constantly reviewing and stepping up hygiene and safety in all food preparation and handling areas;
  6. Our front of house messaging reminds all guests of the importance of personal hygiene and hand sanitising.
  7. With effect from 19 March 2020 no alcohol will be served on the casino floors and in our own restaurants on the various premises;
  8. We will restrict the number of patrons in the casinos to a maximum of 100 persons in the respective gaming areas;
  9. We will ensure that social distance principles are practiced and maintained in the casinos and restaurants by:
    1. increasing the distances between each slot machine and gaming tables in the casinos;
    2. increasing the distance between tables at our restaurants;
  10. Access to Sun City Resort and Wild Coast Sun will be limited to Hotel residents, MVG cardholders and guests with golf bookings;
  11. Access to the Valley of Waves at Sun City Resort and Wild Waves at Wild Coast Sun will be limited to Hotel residents and MVG cardholders only. Measures to ensure social distancing have been implemented in these two waterparks.
  12. Concessionaires will continue to operate on our premises in accordance with their own policies but at all times adhering to the regulations issued by Government regarding the sale and consumption of alcohol.
  13. We realise this might result in some inconvenience or disappointment to our patrons. By taking sensible decisions to ensure our health and wellbeing, we can reduce the impact of this virus and keep ourselves and our families safe. Together we can make a difference.
Sol Kerzner's ghost must be so proud.

Keep them profits rolling in boys.

There is no point tracking the number of positive test results. Increasing cases can indicate an effective medical response in terms of increased testing being done. Track deaths.

Problem is the that cause of death is not always tracked or recorded according to the same measures.

But, so what? Can't we simply test and/or provide treatment for critical cases as the present? Whilst engaging in social isolation and basic hygiene to slow down the spread of this?

The point is that testing results isn't an accurate indication of infection progression.

But the case notes for the individual infections are. ie. They know the whereabouts, the contacts, the hotspots etc to get a greater picture. The govt is very much still in containment mode.

No, it's pointless. Especially as when you test negative, you are still at the same exact risk of getting infected.

Which is why there was such a stringent (possible too much) set of parameters to get tested in the first place. See above - testing still plays an important role.

Or are the general public so uninformed that they think in 4 weeks time this will be gone?
This is my biggest gripe with all this hysteria. I'm not exactly sure what they think this virus is or of they even know how viruses operate in general, but they think that somehow it'll be gone "if we just lockdown for 2..maybe 4 weeks". I also notice they evolve their hysterical narrative as they educate themselves.

Still too many asymptomatic people getting tested and still too many asymptomatic people clogging up the healthcare system.

The labs have recently started testing samples from deceased who have died from respiratory ailments regardless if they were tested previously.

Add a zero to that number, that’s what it is realistically.
That is most likely accurate. They're probably thousands who are sick who are just dealing with it like they would deal with a bout of the flu.

Why would you be sure they would be? Why would they?

Because of what is going on around the world? The way that government and various other private sector response has been? I'm not saying there's a Utopian response going on - but I would be extremely surprised and concerned if they weren't testing respiratory-related deaths at this stage.
