Wonder what is the protocol to follow in this scenario, should Koeberg staff get the COVVIES...
According to him they're planning movement restriction.

i really wish those people who say things that don't exist would keep their privileged information to themselves rather than causing mass panic
What things don't exist? My post was intended to provide insight as to what's happening at a certain power station.

Some of you may have read my post last week about my company being hard arse over this and not willing to budge on work attendance.

Well, well, well, how the turntables.

All managers have now been asked what is the fewest amount of staff members we would require to carry on doing what we do. They want to rotate staff one week on, one week off while limiting the impact it has on our operations. Those that can work from home will be allowed to do so.

Except the managers, we'll always have to be in, so I'll see you guys at my funeral. You will be in charge of my after tears @Ninja'd.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but he's been working at Eskom for more than twenty years.

Preparing for lockdown, is not the same as a lockdown actually happening.

My company has prepared as best it can for lockdown as well (hell I'm surprised Koeberg are only preparing now)

No arguments there. My post is a headsup, nothing more.

The provincial government is scrambling to quarantine Eastern Cape's Covid-19 patient zero, who has been roaming around East London in defiance of the state's containment measures.
Tough-talking health MEC Sindiswa Gomba, who held a press briefing with the SA Council of Churches on Monday morning, said patient one — who allegedly claimed to be exercising her right to freedom of movement after testing positive for the virus following her trip from Germany — should not infringe on the rights of others.
Gomba said: “[She] places people at unnecessary risk and as such, we want to call on law enforcement agencies to deal decisively with anyone found to be in contravention of the national state of disaster regulations that have been gazetted.
...
She said the patient was still “self-quarantining at home”.

So they want all positive people to be institutionalised... unfortunately we don't even know where all the positive people are - only 400 of them. Are they all institutionalised?

Fair point.. just think, in light of the situation, maybe a bit more context would be required.... because people currently will assume that it means the a lockdown announcement will be made tonight (which may or may not happen).

Fake news type accusations start flying and it could get people into kak...

Got an email from a supplier of hand sanitizers ....

1) After much back and forth with the factory that did supply my first order, they have now said I will have to
wait 3 weeks as their raw materials and packaging have run out;
2) All other suppliers that I have spoken to are sitting with back orders that will take weeks and even months to
work through;
3) The major ethanol producers (such as Sasol) have apparently now opted to sell into the export market due to
the far higher profits they are achieving there (the US$ is rallying); this is a big reason why we are
experiencing this shortage, significant price hikes as well as many delays;

4) Basic packaging in the 50ml, 100ml, 250ml and 500ml range are sold out nationwide. Lead times are approx. 2
weeks

And yet not even one critical case let alone death from CoVID-19.
Because probably 95% of infected are under 70 years old. Mostly happy travellers.

Younger people infected have a very low death rate .

That, plus an average of 10-14 days before death after showing symptoms. Give it a few days and the death rate will jump.

The Eastern Cape government is implementing stringent measures to prevent tourists spreading coronavirus in the province.
This comes after a German tourist, who is part of a tour group at Chintsa's Crawford's Beach Lodge, tested positive for the virus, reports DispatchLIVE.
The group arrived at the resort on Friday night. On Saturday night, the infected tourist received a call to say he had tested positive for the virus.
The provincial health department is “baffled” at how the tourist was allowed to travel, as he had reported symptoms in KwaZulu-Natal.

A friend's hubby (who is a cop) has apparently been in meetings about being deployed to provincial borders.
N.B. To those reading, this is exactly what it appears to be - hearsay.

The interview with the doctor that helped stop Smallpox is interesting.
Says we need 1. test everybody (know if we're looking at cases that are an iceberg or fully revealed like a pyramid)
2. a vaccine/antiretroviral
3. confirmation on the theory that once you've got it you're immune

That should be antiviral.

100% agreed on that front...

And even if said cop has been in meetings about being deployed to the border, it would be prudent planning given what possibly MAY happen. Rather have plans up front if that situation arises rather than having to scramble to meet the requirement.

There is a backlog but one private lab is processing way more than that daily even over the weekend.

See, that's the problem I have with companies that have hyperbolic time chambers, they just churn things out so fast because they're cheating.

Waste of resources on testing dead people for COVID-19... why test them?

Sequencing the genes of the virus in deceased allows us to build an infection spread and see which strain of the virus the patient had. CDC labs in Seattle were able to estimate that between patient zero and patient 12 that at least 300 peope had passed the virus on before reaching patient 12. They also could pinpoint that patient zero's viral spread reached a beach town about 300km away, which had their first case spawning a cluster.

You must remember that unlike an Italy we have a very young population that doesn't get severe symptoms of this.

We have a young population, but there are other risk factors involved. ZA has a high incidence of heart disease, a high incidence of smokers, high blood pressure, diabetes, obesity, and cancer. Especially the high blood pressure thing because we're a meat-eating country that chows boerewors like it's the air we breathe.

And we have the highest TB population and about 3.5 million HIV/AIDS sufferers not taking their meds.

It's going to be a bad time.

Someone should revise the theoretical line.

I based the line on the CDC's expectations of a 50% increase in confirmed cases each day, roughly doubling every two days. I'll take out the theoretical increase once we hit 1000 confirmed cases, because from then on our trajectory shouldn't be compared to the theoretical trend.

Well, I have a friend from high school that spies on women in the changeroom at woolworths. He says he's gonna start masturbating in public soon. And he's been doing that for twenty years.

Can we have source or don't be so defensive, cause we can all make **** up.
