I don't thing the gov will get this, someone needs to tell them how much taxes they are losing per day.Hint R20 taxes on every box sold.
If they cared about tax revenue, they would formalize the taxi industry. They don't care. Looks too much like work.

That's still a ****ton of revenue the government is missing out on daily during the crackdown. Revenue we could surely use as the offer bailout after bailout to business and employee alike? Right? The same goes for the sin tax on plonk? Right?

I did some rough calculations based on a few news stories...

They will forgo around R350m in sin taxes on smokes alone in the 21 days.

It'll be better spent if the sin money goes to buying food or toilet paper or now computer hardware from Wootware.

Got to admit it, that guy in that hat, he really gave you guys the middle finger and is showing who's in charge. "No smokes for you. No booze for you". Eina.
Keep in mind, I don't smoke or drink. I value my constitutional rights. That means I will fight Adolf Cele to the death to allow you the right to buy your cigarettes and alcohol.

As for showing us who's in charge, the constitution is supposed to be in charge not some tinpot mobster with wet dreams of tyranny.

Many would say its a good thing. After all sin tax already takes these things away from the underprivileged. Why should the rich have all the fun? Now there's more equality in the system. He's still eating everyone's lunch.

Briefing live now -

Minister of Justice, Ronald Lamola, clarifies that lodges, hotels and B&Bs are not allowed to be used. On Thursday, Cogta Minister Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma said in error that they would be allowed if someone was travelling to attend a funeral.

Ok, so where are they going to stay ?

In my words -

We have no PPE because other countries were awake and bought up the stock.

Also we raped the fiscus, got downgraded so now we can't afford to pay with the exchange rate what it is>

But we have asked China and they will send us some stuff

Tracker has done a study

Insights garnered from using Tracker’s vehicle tracking data and analytics from Lightstone indicate that most South Africans are doing their bit to “flatten the curve”. Nationally, South African vehicle activity had already dropped by up to 20% before the lockdown, relative to the corresponding day in early March. Vehicle activity has subsequently plummeted by 75% since the implementation of the lockdown.

The significant decline in vehicle movement during the first three days of confinement followed a slight increase in passenger vehicle activity in the two days prior. This increase in vehicle movement is likely due to citizens shopping in preparation for being confined to their homes with many having been paid on the 25th, as observed by the reports of lengthy queues and sold out stock at stores in the days before lockdown.
