Shoprite Bothasig Covid-19 store closure

7 April 2020

After one of our colleagues at Shoprite Bothasig tested positive for Covid-19, we closed this store and brought in a professional decontamination company to sanitize and deep clean the store before it will reopen this morning after inspection. We have informed The National Institute of Communicable Diseases (NICD) and the Department of Health.

Our mobile clinic was immediately dispatched to the store and all our employees were tested. Those who worked closely with this employee are now at home, in self-isolation for 14 days, and are monitoring themselves for any symptoms.

All employees returning to work will be temperature tested and the mobile clinic will remain on site until all employees have been tested. Face shields sanitised on the hour and other strict hygiene practices will remain in place.

I don’t want to be accused of spreading fake news so can anyone confirm what I have heard from two sources - one a lecturer and a student at different places of learning - that teachers/lecturers have been instructed by the dept of education not to provide any online course material because it would be unfair to students who don’t have Internet?

Looks like massive failure in controls. Should close the whole thing down, but it doesn't bode well for us if the case load goes higher up. I see my local netcare hospital have set up some sort of reception screening outside of the main hospital reception. They're using a marquee.
Xenex robots are being deployed into the hospital's

This is more concerning :

We are concerned about developments at St Augustine’s Hospital. 66 tested positive over the past few days. About 48 of them are staff. The Provincial dept. is engaging the hospital, with a view to closing parts of the hospital down
Just shows how useless our non private hospitals are and how great National Health plans the anc have will fail the country.
FFS this is atrocious

As pointed out this is a Pvt Hospital and now I am really concerned.

Apparently that has happened at many Italian hospitals, many of the stuff contract Corona and the hospital becomes a hub for spreading the infection.

Add Spain, UK, USA and I'm sure many more countries where healthcare workers are also being infected and/or dying from the virus.

Edit...this was a CNN report just a few min ago

Interesting useless fact, the semi-circular building is the ICU. In the centre is the nurses station, also a semi circle mirroring the patient's beds and patient monitor screen for each bed.

Infections at a hospital and someone automatically assumes it must be a public hospital? Looks like there are a lot of myths out there about this Corona thing, we really need to move away from that.

Its a protocol issue. The infections started in the emergency ward, and there were insufficient procedures in place to screen patients before they came through the front doors.

Its a bit of a cultural thing, since hospitals have evolved to be 'friendly', but in an era of infections they have to behave as if every arrival is carrying a deadly disease.

Meanwhile:

Mobile testing for Covid-19 has all but ground to a halt in Nelson Mandela Bay.

The Eastern Cape’s mobile testing programme was launched with much fanfare in Port Elizabeth on Thursday by Eastern Cape premier Oscar Mabuyane and health MEC Sindiswa Gomba.

However, on Tuesday, Gomba said no further tests were being carried out in the city because officials were waiting for testing kits.

The govt should ask itself why this perception exists.

The government is really throwing away its chance to do mass testing over the lockdown period. Performing mass testing - as has been shown by multiple countries - in conjunction with contact tracing is far more effective than shutting down the country. This lockdown will ultimately shown to be a waste IMO.

We don't have that to do mass testing.
