Western Cape blood service driver tests positive for Covid-19

A Western Cape Blood Service driver has tested positive for Covid-19, its spokesperson has said. The employee did not work directly with blood samples, and is self-isolating.

Marike Gevers said the staff member - who is based in Pinelands, Cape Town - showed symptoms on 17 April and it was confirmed on Wednesday he had Covid-19.

Western Cape has conducted more than 3x the number of tests that Gauteng has, which could be one explanation. WC - 21077 tests conducted by 23 April. Gauteng - 6500.

The other provinces really need to pull up their socks as far as screening and testing go.
