So Italy, one of the hardest hit countries, is allowing visiting of relatives and unrestricted outdoor exercise from May the 4th. Compare that with our ridiculous regulations which only visiting relatives and friends on level 1.
Using a country that failed so dismally to deal with the virus as an example of how the lockdown should be eased is foolish, Italy offers many good examples of how not to deal with the Covid-19 pandemic.

But we are all experts...

My point is they are easing regulations despite the fact that they will have a far higher number of active cases than SA on May 4. Possibly in the region of 30x more active cases than SA. Yet they consider safe to visit relatives and exercise unrestricted.

How long have they been under strict lockdown? You're comparing rocks with apples.

National lockdown since March 10. This is inconsequential to my point, however (see above).

On the other hand we all know that you can either be asymptomatic or too early in the infection stage to be showing any symptoms. At the end of the day, they were busy screening all airport arrivals back in February already, yet they missed all thosd that arrived infected from Italy.
Temperature screening is a pretty coarse measurement. Only picks up severe cases.

Given their experience I think they're stupid to risk a resurgence. But I can see why they might ease up a bit. People are tired of being locked up and their economy, which wasn't in good shape to begin, needs room to breathe a bit. Unwise but they're screwed either way. For the record, I think we are overly cautious.

Has Karim released any more details on the number of passive cases?

Another usefull stat would be the total & used ICU beds

The lockdown is to make sure the hospitals can cope, so we need this info

No you don't. Your masters will decide what to do... You have no say or input. Be happy they're doing this for you.

63,000 people died of TB in SA in 2018.
So 172 per day, why no lock down?
They died because they didn't get treatment, not because there was no lockdown. TB has a treatment regime and those who pose a threat are usually locked up while they recover. That said, I agree that our (SA's) TB history is a poor one and a blight on our government and healthcare system.

You don’t get locked up.
Its not 1920.
You get send home and told to self isolate until the medicine work.

They've got it per province Gauteng had 64 in hospital and WC was 25 or 30. The rest I don't know.

Covid-19: decisive action is the hallmark of South Africa’s early success against coronavirus

The period from 10 to 16 April was deemed critical to determine what happens next. “Prior to lockdown there was an average of 72 cases a day. During two weeks of lockdown, it dropped to 67,” said Karim. “If cases fall to between 45 and 89, and active cases found by health workers are 1:1000 or below, then we can ease the lockdown.”

Has the 1:1000 ratio for active cases been mentioned before?

Inability to keep sick folk isolated is the main reason for the spread in SA.
If it's changed, it's been in the past 10 years.
