They even steal fences. One of our neighbours has a watchman to stop his fences from being stolen.
haha its funny we have a mine next to us and they stole all the fence poles to go and sell the metal

Exactly. Some people seem to lead a very cosy sheltered life and think the entire country is like their suburb or home.

Bridges are having the concrete chopped away so that the steel rebar can be cut off and sold.

The large amounts make it seem farmers have huge disposable income.

They don't.

Yes, there are a some that are doing really well.

There are also many that struggle to keep up with no power, wages, rising fuel costs, theft, and as a consequence, staying relevant with equipment and repairs and so on.

There are planters that can track every individual mielie pip planted, for example and keeps Diesel levels and dumps it all over wifi.

Issue is you still need to drive 100km on a dirt road to get rain levels. Some are starting to or considering automating this so you know when to irrigate.

You don't want to irrigate unnecessarily.

Not too long ago ago I walked past a metal lamppost which was there a few days ago and disappeared - I should say I walked past where it used to be.

99.99% probability it has been chopped up into manageable pieces and the light-steel sold to a scrapyard.

In 2008, They stole 8 of my solar panels by caring them on foot 10km to nearest road and it was the bigger heavy panels so you needed 2 people per panel. This was in the middle of the night in bushes and tall grass... they will do anything if they want to

Drive through the country and you will encounter bridges that have been stripped, buildings stripped and/or deserted, closed businesses, etc.

Try taking another route and you'll find it's nearly impossible if not impossible with all the potholes.

Look at the railways countrywide when you drive. How often do you see a train?

You see trains close to coal mines and perhaps going to Richards Bay where most of it is (or used to be?) shipped from.

Take a look at the rest stops en route on a voyage. Filthy and generally with no people. Too dangerous to stop and chill with no one around and not knowing who lurks in the bush.

The country needs something else. Of course, the toll gates have been getting fancy LED panels instead of boards to display which lane is for what and which is closed.

Priorities, I guess.
