South African gangs steal 10 million litres of fuel

Criminal gangs have stolen 10 million litres of fuel in the past year in South Africa, according to a report by the Sunday Times.

The gangs achieved this by targeting pieces of Transnet’s 3,200km underground pipelines, which transport petrol, diesel, gas, crude oil, and aviation fuel across the country.

Ahhhhh, I was waiting for this. Well done all our Cadres. You do us proud.

The report added that the losses caused by the theft – which sees criminals creating holes in the pipelines and siphoning off fuel, in some cases into their own tankers – are valued at around R1 billion per year.
I initially thought this was a hoax as:
  • You need to use specialize equipment to safely punch a hole in pipeline
  • The pipeline normally has huge pressure inside
  • Even a small hole/weakness would cause the pipeline to rupture
Then I read the following:
NEWS24: Three men hold up Mpumalanga police station, flee with firearms

Only in ZA  o_O

This is the same country where they cut live high voltage power lines for the copper, strip houses of all sellable material if it's not occupied. Run cables along the ground carrying power.

Oh look, more crime (and probably corruption by some "elites") in anc-run SA.
Only R1bn?
Is that it?
Let's see next year brings.

Hang in there people. There is a chance the ANC will lose power when absolutely everything is gone, burnt to ashes or stolen. But probably not.

Amateurs, neophytes, novices - only 10 million litres and high risk of deaths

This is how the real professionals do it:
South Africa's strategic fuel stock sold off in secret

Risk free 10-million barrels ~ 1.6 billion litres gone - no one's ever been caught!

Happened under this Energy Minister's watch - she knows what occurred.

:laugh::laugh:

You can always count on the ANC for pro-tips. I suppose there isn't room for everyone to share in the big loot of the elite. But it would be very surprising if multiple levels of local government were not involved in these grassroot 'gangs'.

Good thing it wasn't a black hand...EFF would have closed all petrol stations down in South Africa.

I think we will never see a piece of black anatomy in any advert or stock photo ever again...
Watch the advertising on DSTV !?

Is there anything in this country that isnt or hasn't been siphoned???

I don't believe it's 'criminal gangs', more likely govt connections (and it must come from high up) who have access to and tools and permissions required to do this.
