With the beginning of the week 24 July 2006 there will be a gathering of South African Horde players on the WhisperWind Realm (PvE).
The new guild is named <sorted> and all South Africans (and friends) are welcome to move or re-roll characters to enjoy WoW in a South African environment.
So what is this all about?
When WoW first began, the South Africans who chose to play horde found themselves scattered across multiple servers. Some re-rolled and joined up with the South African Alliance guilds who had managed to make Stormrage the South African server. Others persevered with American guilds and raiding very late hours.
Now, server transfers are open and we have the opportunity to consolidate all those South African Horde players!
So which server are we going to play on?
In order to make sure that everyone can join in the fun, we needed to choose a PVE server. Players on PVP servers can move to PVE servers but players on PVE servers cannot move to PVP servers.
With that in mind, we wanted to find a server that had a medium - high population, good Battleground action and no lag and instance crashing issues. It also wouldn’t hurt if the server had a catchy name!
The reason for medium-high population is to make sure that the economy is fairly mature. There is nothing pleasant about paying 400g for Righteous Orbs and Essences due to price gouging.
Battlegrounds were important too- especially since we were considering a PVE server.
After doing some research on forums and in-game we have decided on the WhisperWind realm.
So who can join in?
Everyone! The idea is to try and gather together all the South Africans horde players to have a good time together. Recruitment to South Africans is completely open – regardless of level, game experience or personal history.
Of course, should people behave like complete tools and make the game consistently less fun for the others, Surdy will use his angry font!
If you do not have a horde toon but have wanted to check it out, or are new to WoW this might be a good place to start a character as well.
Who is involved right now?
At the moment there are roughly 15 – 20 South African players (unique accounts) committed to the idea of making <Sorted> work on WhisperWind.
There is a nice blend of medium level characters and some high level characters with PHAT PURPLEZZ. I can think of some who have purple PvP gear and others who have run every instance in the game through to the bleeding edge of Naxx.
What is <Sorted>’s focus going to be?
Well, in terms of game progression we would like to be able to aim for running successful 20 man raids soon. This means ZG20 and AQ20, with the further aim of getting into the 40 man instances after that.
We would also like to hit up the Battlegrounds from time to time. There is nothing quite like PvP’ing in a guild group. You know… being in a raid… healers… windfury… general punting of gnomes…
I am not ready for ZG or AQ right now but I want to play!
That is cool! All of the people committed to making this happen are also committed to helping others participate in the fun.
You can expect all the usual guild things like advice, camaraderie and bags as well as a short to medium term focus on helping people get ready for raiding.
This translates into plenty of organized guild runs into the BRS instances, Stratholme, Scholomance etc… Tier 0 is there for the taking and once we have that Sorted (hah!) we will start looking at our longer term goals of getting into the 20 mans.
Haha! N00bs you will never make this work! Roll alliance and learn2play!
Hehe, you might be right… this is by no means a sure thing but we are keen to try. It is not going to cost us anything other than the transfer fees and at the very worst we will have more South Africans to play with than we did on our old servers.
Personally, I am going to go from playing with 5 or so good mates to playing with 10 or 20 good mates!
There is no down side here other than a complete absence of Blessing of Kings but we have Windfury to keep us warm at night.
I am already part of a South African Horde guild? What should I do?
Good for you! We don’t want to break down anything else that is going with South African horde but we do want to start something happening!
You should talk to us – we are mature, friendly guys with plenty of experience playing Horde. Even if you just want to exchange pleasantries or strats you should be in touch!
We don’t do drama though. It is just not in us – we have girlfriends, boyfriends, work and South African sport for that. We might laugh at you for drama though or set warcow and JoeSmith on you.
What is your guild name? Website? Vent server?
We are going to use the name <Sorted> for our guild. Mostly because it has some old school gaming memories for a lot of us (being chknhds and stuff) and because we already own the domain.
Prophecy have been kind enough to let us host a forum here which you should be able to see fairly soon.
Vent is something we have not set up yet – but it is something we are definitely going to have. There is just no way we can let veng type in game!
Besides, if you have never been in a raid on vent with warcow, JoeSmith and Nandos you have never truly had online man loving.
Wait… did you just say online man loving?
Yeah I did! But it was a joke I promise! Well… sorta a joke! You see while we like progression and purples as much as anyone else, we are in this for the fun.
It is why we play games and why the game stays fresh for us. We are not afraid to take 3 mages to Undead Strat just to see how quickly we can do it. We are not above summoning someone into lava just to see them hop and swear on vent and we are definitely not about shouting someone down and stressing people out when playing games.
We play to win – but our conditions for victory include enjoying what we do?
Which of you jokers is running this thing?
Well, EvilSurd is going to be heading up the guild because he has the resume for it. He has been through every instance with horde, farmed killed C’thun, collected tier 2 epics, punted gnomes and danced with the king of Stormwind. Apparently the king is short…
He also is kind to small animals and does a very good imitation of 50 DKP MINUS!
We also have a nice core group of players who know their classes very well and you can expect to get loads of help on speccing your character, explanations of why stance dancing is important or why you should try frost over fire.
It sounds like you might be “too” organized for where you are right now…
Perhaps! Better to overdo this right now than to be under organized though. We want to make this work but we expect this guild to be an evolving entity. Most of the guys who are accepting positions within the guild expect to have the guild grow through them until they are no longer necessary other than as normal members.
Okay Okay! This FAQ is too long already anyway! Who should I talk to about my questions?
Fair enough on the length. Please free to post here on the Prophecy WoW forum or to message EvilSurd, Boots, warcow, veng or DMNKnight. All of our help comes in a variety of flavours!
You can also catch me (boots) on MSN: rossharrison –at- hotmail –dot- com.
