South African ISPs - ranked

MyBroadband has released its July 2019 ISP satisfaction ratings, which show that Supersonic and Cybersmart are the top-rated Internet service providers (ISPs) in South Africa.

MyBroadband’s ISP satisfaction ratings are based on feedback from over 10,000 South African broadband users between 1 July 2019 and 31 July 2019.

Again, new mushroom company with only have 100clients that all 100 posted good reviews.

Well a iSP that has 10 000 customers but only 10 voted looks bad on paper...

Not accurate results

Please add the bit that says you only count those ISPs that had a minimum of "x" responses... ie smallish ISPs are not included in this list... Would be nice to see the full list anyhows?

"The table below provides an overview of the ratings of prominent fibre, ADSL, and fixed-LTE service providers in South Africa. "

Yeah, this means nothing if Afrihost weaseled their listing to only include fibre users :)

You are correct that only ISPs with many votes are listed. The problem with only a few votes is that the data becomes nearly irrelevant. Also difficult to filter IP ranges, which we use, based on organisation. There are hundreds of organisations listed - often companies and not ISPs.

Regardless, happy to see Cybersmart up at the top. Been with them for about a week now, and super happy so far. This includes the presale and installation service.

Also, if I read the article correclty, the score is based on speedtests? Hardly a good measure for useless support

RPM - what maybe irrelevent to you maybe very relevent to others... this is a subjective view... I was just suggesting when writing articles like this it's very relevant to point out that you have excluded the niche ISPs who actually provide the best and fastest (as well as the worst and slowest) connections :)

The scores are based on the ratings which users give their ISP (hence not the speed). In the next article we will try to make it clearer.

You are correct that smaller ISPs can provide excellent service levels, personalized support and great value. Our problem is how to make sure the data which we publish is accurate. Large data sets make it easy (difficult to manipulate). Smaller data sets can give the wrong impression (good or bad).

To echo what others have said, it would be great if you could include the number of reviews per ISP, or as percentage of total responses.
