Cars converting to run on LP gas in South Africa — and getting their own fuel stations

Isinkwe Energies, in partnership with Ergon Equipment and Prins Autogas, has opened the first Autogas fuel site in KwaZulu-Natal (KZN), and it is the first of its kind in South Africa.

Motorists could see fuel savings of more than 40% by switching to a Prins Autogas kit, which costs anywhere north of R25,000 excluding VAT. Kit costs are model dependent.

It is easy to say it is 40% cheaper per liter... but that doesn't account for the fact that the energy density isn't the same: some sites indicate that the km/l is about 20% to 25% less; which results in a net saving of only 20%.
And then you have to weigh lost bank rewards on refueling, additional effort and kms driven to refuel, massive installation cost, invalid motorplan, etc.

And future road tax on the same!

Great that the tech is finally here, even though slightly underwhelming. Now just need the "vintage car - electric motor conversion" to arrive, maybe in another 10 years!

My oldman and a friend where running a Wolsley back in the late Sixties on LP Gas ...

This was a big thing in Europe a few years ago. I think mainly Eastern Europe in Poland. There were issues with these cars however not being allowed in underground parking due to the risk of gas leaks/fire

Edit: and carbon monoxide poisoning in enclosed spaces...

So these cars in KZN can’t drive more than what 500km from that fuel site? As they cannot refuel anywhere else?
