my mind has the image of a black slug sliding down smooth, polished steel. They'll be lucky to find the doors on these things.

Imagine our Navy....

They are already having problems trying to maintain our current fleet.

How would they be able to chase pirates?

What if the pirates retaliate and invade SA? Will the Navy defend "us"?

The navy is ready to take action on behalf of Africa against Somali pirates, but is waiting for government to instruct them on such an operation.

My crystal ball reveals this news headline:

South African Navy aids pirates in hijacking on grounds of wealth redistribution

:p

I can see the news headline.

'Billion dollar S.A navy ship flees pirate mother ship with the captain exclaiming "they shot back" '

Why is it that we only step in now? After practically every other country has been deployed to the area? They almost make it sound as if the South African Navy has a vital role to play. We can't even prevent overfishing of international trawlers.

Beyond all the obvious things about us having a navy and all that nonsense..

I'm trying to figure out why this is a complicated situation?... Pirate tries to hijack ship, our "navy" fights back.. surely its not a complicated thing to figure out...
