Nespresso data leak in South Africa

South African Nespresso distributor Top Coffee has sent a notice to clients informing them that their names, phone numbers, and email addresses may have been leaked.

According to the notice, the personal information may have been temporarily exposed through a third-party supplier.

oh no... the horror... they are going to know my coffee choices. That is top secret information.

May as well post up all our information on a public website for all to see with all the data leaks going on, lest we inconvenience the hackers by using default web passwords and shared logins across services.

Hey now, don't you be knocking my babushka.
He's obviously never experianced good coffee and alchohol

- Portugal : espresso and agua dente
- Russia : vodka with a dash of espresso
- Italy : espresso and raw alc

etc etc.

Strong alchohol opens the tastebuds to experience the coffee. Feel great after a few cups

It is the fact that my name, email address and phone number is in the hands of spammers now that I take issue with
100%. I agree, any form of data breach with credible personal information is bad, because you know you there is a chance of you getting bombarded with spam.

No mention of who the third party is.

“Please be reassured that this issue has been immediately fixed and your personal data is fully protected,”

I don't find this very reassuring. It wasn't "fully protected" before

Oh no, muh data!

Anyway, back to using my Quest VR headset so Mark can see me spank my monkey while watching the good stuff.

I was very surprised when I walked into the Nespresso shop at Sandton City and they refused to let me buy anything unless I gave an email address.

So yeah, [email protected] is about to get spammed.

it most likely already was before this - have no illusions your data is not already leaked

R10 a pod? Madness. A 1kg bag of beans is only R180.
You have to factor a R3.5k machine vs. a R15+k machine, and the quality of the coffee. There are few restaurants that serve a better espresso IMO than what many of the Nespresso and Starbucks pods provide.
