eish, and yet some athletes had to pay their own way to Rio.

Its a nice gesture, but wow our sporting organisations need to really get things better sorted. The SA kit was awful and cheap as well.

Wade deserves a lot more, that world record was never supposed to have been broken. I think his WR was the highlight of the entire athletics at Rio. Come SA, you can do better for a true hero.

Its probably a R100 in the hand and a "Don't spend it all on sweets" comment..

Everyone who medalled does.

Yeah but article says she and Wayde got bonusses. Wayde broke the world record.

Times Media reported that Mbulula pledged R150,000 extra for Wade Van Niekerk for breaking the world record‚ while 800 metre runner and gold medal winner Caster Semenya would get an extra R100,000.

SASCOC promised to award all gold medalists at both the Olympic and Paralympic Games R500,000. Of that, R400,000 would go to the athlete and the remaining R100,000 to the coach.

Silver medal winners earned R200,000 (plus R50,000) for the coach, while those bagging bronze pocketed R80,000 (plus R20,000 for the coach).

Wayde more because he broke the record. Caster got a bit less extra. Silver got a bit less extra as well as bronze. So every one got extra

She got 100k extra because she won gold - which got more already. Silver got 70k more than originally, and bronze 50k more.

I don't see the problem.
