Post Office parcel delivery tested — with shocking results

MyBroadband tested the SA Post Office’s parcel delivery service, which revealed many bottlenecks, including slow movement and extremely poor admin at branches.

MyBroadband tracked two parcels between Centurion and Port Elizabeth using IoT GPS devices to test the parcel delivery service.

Eventually it will just be another parcel "tax". All courier companies will pay a tax to SAPO (aka Government) to deliver parcels. So they just need service or excuses good enough to win whatever court case needs to be won.

SA Post Office spokesperson Johan Kruger told MyBroadband they are switching to a new service provider for their mail transport vehicles.
What's the point of getting the parcels quicker to the end PO, when it will just hibernate there before being returned to sender?

Well colour me surprised that the parcel only took eight days to get from Centurion to PE... That is way better than I expected...

The rest of it is exactly as I would have expected.

MYbb - > lets be clear. Next time you have SA Post office and Shocking in the same article, kindly confirm that the shocking refers to them operating at a normal speed.

Exactly the same piss poor service levels that I experienced from SAPO 10 years ago, the very last time I used them.

The Courier Guy delivers today if it is JHB, Midrand or PTA (and its ready to go in the morning). Delivery is generally in the afternoon. Delivery is 2 - 3 days if it is beyond. This is the standard that the Post Office should be standard practice - or get out of the game.

Clearly not.. you could have walked from Centurion to PE with the parcel in your hand & still beat their delivery..

Nah not quite unfortunately...

The Post Office took about half the time it would take to walk the package to PE...
But let that sink in, an entity with a national footprint and vehicles was only 50% faster than walking 1100kms.

If you include the amount of time it sat in the PO's offices and such before being sent back though, then walking would have been about 10 - 15 days faster, with a guaranteed beer at the end of the trip.

The post office used one of those big red dikwiels that whole distance. It would have been faster but a damn brak in Bloem attacked the delivery cyclist and he had to go for medical attention.
The new delivery cyclist has been provided with pepper spray.

Clearly google knew about this brak... Cycling isn't an option when doing a directions check from Centurion to PE :p
