South African pricing for the new iPad Pro and iMac revealed

iStore has opened pre-orders and revealed pricing for the 2021 iMac and iPad Pro in South Africa.

These new Apple products were announced at the company’s Spring Loaded event on 20 April 2021.

The new iPad Pro features Apple’s M1 processor, which offers 50% better performance than its predecessor.

Huh?

Base model iMac:

$1299 = R18691.83

R18691.83 * 2 = R37383,66

Apple M1 Chip, 7-core GPU, 256GB SSD, 8GB RAMR25,999

How exactly is that double?

This is not even accounting for VAT...

I think you need to ask for your school fees to be refunded. Maths doesn't support this statement.

I agree, the most expensive one, (8GB RAM, 512GB SSD) is 1699USD.
1699 USD -> R24422,73 . (Excluding VAT?)
So, what the iStore is pricing it -> R33999 (Including VAT?)
So which means, R33999 - R24422,73 = R9576.27 difference.
Import VAT (15%) works out to R3663.40 for the R24K iMac. Where does the other roughly R6k come from?

Like I said, hot, overpriced garbage. There's no way I'm paying R36K for a iMac with ARM silicon.

That's your opinion. Mine is different. I have a M1 MacBook Pro supplied by work. I would gladly pay The 25k asking price for it as it has improved my workflow and productivity a lot. Also, I can't do my work on a non Mac machine; but that's not really the point.

Old joke. Nobody does this anymore and I don't think anybody has ever camped out in front of an iStore.

I also don't hang around in Windows / Linux / Samsung / OneNote / Xaomi / <insert your preferred brand or OS here> threads and scream "fanboy!" every time something new comes out.

Nice to see the 11 inch iPad Pro come down in price in rand terms. Pity about the 12.9 dollar price increase because that screen is awesome.

Pricing is a quite high for a fixed machine.. keep in mind that the entry level notebook/air is about that or less. So for offices yes.. home users.. i have doubts but this has been an issue since notebooks became powerful enough to challenge the idea of work bench not being mobile.

I'd say other than a nice machine for reception staff to look funky.. i don't see people buying this even for kids >12. use case vs cost.. when u have an existing screen and a Apple Mini is about R12-15k (i.e. if u have the peripherals .. i.e. keyboard, mouse, screen).

Perhaps try one. The only downside I've found to the M1 mac is the lack of x86 virtualisation guests.
