South African software development outsourcing companies roundup - February 2023

how long is a piece of string
as long to know you are linked to Exelia Technologies if this thread is your first contribution

South African Talent is awesome.
Some skills have relocated into Europe to service UK and European markets.
One such company is Exelia Technologies which was founded by Margarita Maimonis 10 years ago based in Cyprus initially with an all Sout African team. They have now grown into a multinational team with Skills located into 9 countries.

huh? Derivco is an outsourcing company?

thought they pretty much only do work in the gambling gaming space and only for companies that are essentially all owned by the same people

Derivco is a long time sponsor of MyBB. They don't do a "these awesome companies in SA" article without puffing on the derivco schlong.

@Jan, can't count to 5?
We’ve compiled a list of four highly-respected local companies that have provided software development services for many years.

  1. BBD
  2. Codehesion
  3. Derivco
  4. Entelect
  5. JustSolve

So which one is the best? In terms of interactions from supplier, employee or just technical work done?

Lol I used to work for a software consulting company which didn't make the list. No wonder - they were terrible!

Would honestly rather saw off my own arms than work for BBD or Entelect.

Funny they make no mention of the languages these companies hire for either. Lifes too short to write Java and C#

Do tell us more? Rather work for AWS/FAANG or something else?

Anything that isn't a soul sucking contract code factory. There is no mastery in a place like that, no room to be creative.

Some local software development companies outsource work to developers found on Fiverr.com

I won't name and shame... Just saying.

It is either an incompetent junior writer or absolute paid for piece.

To be honest as a long time MyBB follower(non contributor) I now question a lot of content they have published.
Been in the Software industry for 15+ years , worked for 2 on the list and subcontracted to the another 2.
So the article list the wrong type of companies the article try to depict.
Derivco is a gaming development company, developing software for their own use ( excellent company to work for)
As an employee great to work for especially in the KZN office , as a client ... they don’t have they are their own client.

BBD is NOT a small and medium businesses software provider , they service SARS, Discovery and Barry
As an employee you wil learn a lot and work very long hours, as a client you are going to pay A LOT, A TON.
Entelect is a decent outsource partner and probably the only one in the list which does what the article portray.
Great journey as an employee, as a client you will have innovation and good software , but you wil pay. also A LOT.

Just solve ( really ??) they are a low code , no code Outsystems partner who configure software, not develop. There is more picture-drawers than developers.
As an employee it is exciting if you dont know how to code, as a developer you get bored. They do seem to have become a bit more culture orientated. good for them. As a client you are bound to license fees forever, your code does not come out. The visuals does look good though

There are several companies I think should be on that list rather than Derivco or Just solve...

Where is Dariel, DVT, Agile Bridge, Retro Rabbit just to name a few excellent software solutions companies which I would have added on the list.

@mybb
If you gong to publish paid for content, be honest about it.
If you going to task a "best-of" article , get a journalist with some experience or savvy. You could so easily have done so with a bit of market research.

I’ve worked with a couple of software development companies, and from my experience, the best one depends on what you're looking for, some excel at employee culture, while others are all about technical expertise. I’ve heard good things about BBD and Entelect, but like any company, it really depends on the project and team you end up working with.

That being said, outsourcing is a big part of the industry, and it’s not just limited to software. Many healthcare providers also rely on primary care medical billing services to streamline their operations and cut down costs. Outsourcing specialized tasks can really make a difference.
