Solar power pumping in South Africa

Despite fears that the end of load-shedding could spell the end of South Africa’s solar boom, the solar industry remains strong, with businesses viewing alternative energy as a smart, long-term investment.

FNB’s head of sustainability, Kyle Durham, explained that when load-shedding was halted in the second quarter of 2024, South Africans enjoyed an uninterrupted power supply for more than 10 months

The biggest problem is becoming the price. What happens when one product keeps getting more expensive while another gets cheaper?

And the regulations. CoCT changed their reporting system yet again. Its now the responsibility of the registered owner to submit the form, line drawing, certification via eServices on CoCT website. The installer cannot do it

Submissions sent in March 2024 are still pending. This does not stop CoCT sending owners warning letters stating that they have an unregistered solar system and electricity will be disconnected unless the system is approved

Sounds to me that some Council employees don't know their right hand from their left. And its a 45 min wait on the phone to speak to an agent who tells you she is only allowed to attend to 3 queries per phone call

They keep making it easier to go off grid entirely. Funny how SA does everything to antagonise its citizens.

This is why it's sometimes better to have completely incompetent and useless "leadership".
At least we know with City Power JHB etc. it won't even get to the warning letter phase because that would mean they'd actually have to do some work.

They'll be completely reliant on media hype and those few people adamant to shoot themselves in the foot.
The rest of us here in Transylvaalia though? We're so beyond gatvol and financially worn-out that the city might as give up before they've even started.
