South African tech companies paying the biggest salaries – And what their CEOs earn

There are 10 private tech-related companies in South Africa which pay an average annual salary of more than R500,000 per employee.

Workers in the technology sector in South Africa typically earn more than many other industries due to an increased demand for skills in these areas.

MyBroadband has analysed the financial statements of major tech-related businesses listed on the JSE and state-owned enterprises which offer positions in technology-related roles.

No surprise to see that Eskom has the biggest salary bill of all - no wonder its debts are huge! What are bankrupt SABC and Sentech doing on the list??

i always find it amazing that they'll start laying off employees to cut costs, but the ceo earns millions. i also doubt that any of the people in a vodacom/cellc shop at the mall earn R549000 to R861000, which makes their layoffs vs ceo salary even more ridiculous.

For the private sector CEOs, salary is the wrong term. Total reimbursement perhaps, but you can't attribute bonuses to salary. In any particular year where their earnings, share price etc tank (whether due to factors in their control or not) those discretionary payments fall away.

These surveys lack detail.

But they make me think my company is overpaying. Yay for us.
