South Africans can fix Eskom — but we need to bring them home

Former Eskom CEO Brian Dames believes the key to solving the power utility's problems lies in the expertise of skilled South Africans, many of whom now work overseas.

Dames, who currently serves as African Rainbow Energy & Power CEO, started his career at Eskom as a graduate in training at the Koeberg Nuclear Power Station in 1987, where he later became a nuclear physicist.

Lol! When I worked there my manager straight up told me he's not allowed to promote me due to my skin colour, despite me getting our dept ISO9001 certified and being the only project manager to have their contractors paid on time every month.

I don't even consider what I did there to be "above expected".

They don't need expats to come back. There's plenty competence in SA...but, you know...

These guys are so clueless. The key to solving the electricity problem is complete deregulation, getting rid of NERSA, allowing anyone who is willing and able to be allowed to produce and sell electricity without ANY redtape or BEE bullshit. That's how you solve the problem. Not by polishing a turd like Eskom.

Escom started the AA, EE and BBBee and that was the beginning of the downfall

It's scary how much foreign (and local) investment South Africa is losing out on because of BEE, EE and labour regulations. We're literally cutting off our noses to spite our faces by making it as unattractive as possible to setup shop in SA. The government would rather have no jobs at all than even contemplate removing the obstacles that create unemployment in the first place.

Its more than that, the ANC will have to be removed. If the ANC looses power it will be to the EFF. So to fix Eskom SA will need a new political system that is not 1 man 1 vote. The core problem in SA is that too many idiots get to vote.
