Former communications minister appointed ANC head of economic transformation

South Africa’s governing African National Congress appointed Human Settlements Minister Mmamoloko Kubayi as head of economic transformation.

Kubayi, 43, succeeds Enoch Godongwana, who relinquished the powerful party position after being appointed finance minister in August. A statement on Kubayi’s appointment will be issued later, ANC spokesman Pule Mabe said by phone on Tuesday.

Funny that the ANC have all these heads of this and that when in reality the heads or committees are regularly overridden by the day's popular slogan. Even ministers who lack the political gravitas get overridden by the ANC or unions.

Yeah, but to be fair sometimes they are overridden because they allow themselves to be.

Economic transformation and ANC in one sentence????
Stealing transformation is more like it.

They have no choice. The ANC is a collective remember? They have to abide by collective decisions.

Well, the pre requisites for the job DONT include any knowledge of the portfolio or any experience.

What DOES count, in the ANCs book
Woman - check
Not white - check
Cadre - check
ANC brainwashed - check
Physical disability- no.

ANC score 90%.

What does it matter to you though? it's an ANC position and they used whatever criteria they saw fit, I don't think the equivalent on DA's side Dean Mcpherson is a shining example of what qualities a person in such a position should have, I could be wrong but I think he is also a Steenhuisen with no qualifications but they still think he was good enough. He is:

A man - check
Not black - check
Cadre - check
DA brainwashed - check
Physical disability - no

DA score 100%.

I have long criticised BEE and EE policies, but I have come to realise that the ANC is leading the call,

PS22/3: Diversity and inclusion on company boards and executive management

We have published our final policy decision for proposals set out in CP 21/24 ‘Diversity and inclusion on company boards and executive committees’. These measures will improve transparency on the diversity of company boards and their executive management for investors and other market participants.

https://www.fca.org.uk/publication/consultation/cp21-24.pdf (PDF)

What we want to change

1.14 We want to change our Listing Rules to require, as an ongoing listing obligation, issuers that are in scope to disclose publicly in their annual financial report whether they meet specific board diversity targets on a ‘comply or explain’ basis. This allows companies flexibility to provide relevant context on their approach to board diversity, whether or not these targets are met. The targets we are consulting on are:

• At least 40% of the board should be women (including those self-identifying as women).
• At least one of the senior board positions (Chair, Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Senior Independent Director (SID) or Chief Financial Officer (CFO)) should be a woman (including those self-identifying as a woman).
• At least one member of the board should be from a non-White ethnic minority background (as referenced in categories recommended by the Office for National Statistics (ONS)).

There is a lot more to the policy than the above, and it has succeeded the consultation phase. Now I am not measuring this with our own diversity and inclusion policies and programs, but I believe this will become the norm in Western nations in the time to come and that our progress will serve as a basis. It is already done in the US.

Policies like these start slow, and then become more expansive or better said progressive.

From now on I can only recommend that you are the best at what you do.

All in all, Mmamoloko Kubayi will be looked up to as a role model by those who wants to adopt similar policies and or guidelines. Frameworks and all that.
