Well done to Banyana, perhaps the sweetest thing is that they beat Morocco at home, boy I hate those North Africans and their bullying tactics, to the ladies credit though, they played a fair game and were very gracious in defeat, their men's team would have caused a scene.

To be fair, the crowd did seem okay and Refiloe Jane said in her post match presser that they expected a hostile atmosphere which they didn't face so she thanked them.

Good to see them turn it around. Back in 2010 Banyana Banyana was a mess. Most of them were in relationships with each other which showed in the results and they soon couldn't even get a sponsor.

Now in 2022 the men and women's team have swapped roles. PSL players in SA don't take their jobs seriously and drink and socialize too much. Result is we can't compete in even regional competitions and none of our players want to put in the effort to play in Europe.

Lazers is the new Vuvazela.

Beting on the outcomes of games is big business and if rules against lazer pointing isn't enforced and people can't get sentenced to prisons they will keep on using them.

Sometimes things happen for a reason, Kgatlana is a very special player but I felt she wasn't in the right frame of mind for the tournament, she was very selfish in some games, especially in the one where she got injured or the one prior.

What ultimately won the tournament is the teamwork from the girls, at no point after Kgatlana's injury did I feel any of the players were playing for personal glory, they lifted each other, complemented each other's strengths and made up for each other's weaknesses.

Hopefully everyone learnt from this tournament because even if we won I still feel there's way more potential in the team and we are still not putting away most of the chances we create. Hopefully the technical staff is assisted and we go on a huge recruitment drive to bolster the squad, and fine tune the technique before the World Cup.

WAFCON is one thing but they definitely have to build for the World Cup because thats a different ball game as the US and many Asian countries invest heavy resources into that (to the extent that they even are better than European team).

A realistic target for the World Cup is to get out of the group stage.

Okay but "not uncommon" is a stretch. I watch a lot of PSL and this is definitely not happening a lot. Most peoole dont notice it.
I watch a lot of PSL games; perhaps even more than EPL or Bundesliga, but I have never noticed their prevalence in the local game. Been to a few night games in the past as well, mostly at Loftus.

They made 2008 and 2012 WAFCON finals so I don't think they could have been in a very bad mess in 2010, maybe just underperforming which happens? Germany underperformed in the 2018 Mens WC but I wouldn't say their football is in a mess.

The Proteas mens team can learn a lot from Banyana. Before yesterday, they played in five WAFCON finals and lost all. The Proteas mens team are chokers but have also not even gone to the final of a major tournament in over 20 years I think.

Which channel shows the Bundesliga ?

Can't recall as I don't follow it intently but it is shown because I do see it sometimes when going through the channels.

The Bundesliga is actually very interesting in terms of marketing.

The Bundesliga has a well funded media machine so they try to get the league as widely shown as possible. They are on a long term aim to narrow the gap between them and the EPL.

One genius strategy they've used is signing young English players. This is not necessarily because young English players today are great, they are actually on about the same level as Beckham's generation. The benefit the German clubs get is that more people pay attention to them now and they also sign the players cheaply before gaining massive profits when they become good, eg Jason Sancho.

The benefit the English players get is that they may actually get better grooming and more faith shown in them than the English clubs would have given them.

Now that I recall, Sancho was not given an opportunity by Man City and so left for Dortmund before he returned with Man United.
