Just call them by their original name and support them, just like you still refer to the OR Tambo airpot as Jan Smuts.

Just call them South Africa.
To be honest, I really did not know OR Tambo Airport was once known as Jan Smuts. So what ever you tried to imply with your reply failed badly!

All I knew was that more and more "things" that was created and established by a previous government was being renamed to terrorist scum by terrorist scum.
Initially this made me sad, but the more and more we became a shithole, the more it made me happy.

Why on earth would I want honorable and great people be called after a dump?! Why would I want people who did more for this country than what this corrupt and useless government cannot achieve in 10 lifetimes, be named after the garbage laden, sewage ran dumps we call towns, streets etc.

Also, look at the Rugby teams, we have the Springboks, Lions, Sharks, Bulls, Cheetahs, Griquas and the WP(they are not really a rugby team :p). All names of animals found in South Africa. Cricket and Netbal teams are called the Proteas.
These names shows of patriotism, pride and love for one's country.

Wtf or who tf does Banyana Banyana/Bafana Bafana represents?

Maybe when they grow up and also call themselves the Proteas, I will be supporting them.

Q
I think sponsors give money to SAFA and set their sponsorship terms and conditions that mostly pertains to getting the right exposure for their brand, I don't think it extends to them telling SAFA how much money they should pay each player, so SAFA has a whole lot of discretion in how money is spent, because they derive their salary and other costs from the same funding from the same funding. That's why they could also pay themselves nice unexplained bonuses that Riah was complaining about.
Some sponsor specific programs within SAFA, or stipulate how their sponsorship is distributed.

Yeah. I mostly just call them women/ladies football squad. A lot of people called the men squad just....squad... in normal daily conversations.

What a horrible name!

I've seen worse in English soccer.

Nottingham Forest, the new EPL team are "The Trees".

Also, not sure why you are so bitter. Some people will forever just be bitter. First they say the soccer teams are not worth supporting due to quality, then when teams like Banyana Banyana and Sundowns actually win things, another excuse comes around.

I was not around but I wonder what the excuse was in the 1990s when Bafana could actually compete against any side in the world?

There's always a reasonable explanation.

And the fact that they are sticking to this stupid name makes it horrible.

Call me whatever, but I not supporting any team and even less a national team who calls themselves "Banyana Banyana" or even "Bafana Bafana".

Maybe when they grow up and change their name to Proteas I will reconsider supporting them.
You mean grown ups all speak English and using any other language is just childish?

Yes, for the sake of being inclusive?

Or are they only representing people who speak Nguni languages?

Really this is a fantastic achievement! I don't bother to watch soccer, but they've done well.

Why? Let them be called what they want. How does it affect you in any way? Certainly doesn't affect me in any way. I neither watch soccer in this country, nor support the teams, but clearly it's an affectionate name for their supporters.

Very good advise, it's not much but it can be very useful if invested properly.
