I love asking the people who spew this "but the dams are full" BS if they want to drink untreated Vaal Dam water? That shuts them up quick. Shows you that they have not even thought through the problem for one second to realise it's not the dam level that is the problem.

Is anyone saying the dam levels are the problem?

So from my understanding our water purification plants are so outdated and old. Our plants were designed to remove solid matter and the bacteria etc.

Modern plants also need to be able to handle chemicals , fertilizers and antibiotics that ends up in water.

Our systems can not manage this due to old age and tech.
Bullschit! Water treatment plants were built in the '50s & '60s already, including those at RWB, Vereeniging (which I have seen in operation first-hand)

Our systems can not manage this due to old age and tech incompetence, non-maintenance and lack of technical know-how.

In this study, we screened 52 antibiotics along a South African stream polluted with wastewater effluents and municipal dumpsite leachates. Of these antibiotics, 15 were detected in the stream while 3 sulfonamides (sulfamethizole, sulfamethazine, sulfamethoxazole), a fluoroquinolone (flumequine) and a diaminopyrimidine (trimethoprim) were further quantified.

How could we see that coming ...

Remember Dr Anthony Turton? We shoot the messenger.

In fact, it has distinct echoes of Eskom waiting until the crisis was upon us. Maybe we'll see the equivalent of Medupi and Kasile with water one day. Let no natural ANC crises not be exploited.

They will not be able to fix all the leakage. Everyone has seen the pictures of how some informal settlements connect themselves to the electricity grid. Some of them also connect to the water system in a similar way. It is unlikely the workers will be allowed into these areas to sort this out.

Well traditionally water restrictions were linked to dam levels. What's happening now is a relatively new thing (to me at least). The fact that we have the water makes it ten times worse.

But yeah, it's a service problem and not a resource problem at this point.

Fsck 'em to hell. They cried forever about things like dignity and human rights. Gave them the reigns and they can't provide even the basics like running water.

According to the headline of an article on News24, it will cost Johannesburg R61 billion to fix the water infrastructure (couldn't read the full article, it's pay walled)

But if that number is accurate, it suggests that the ANC has done **** all for the past 28 years, 0, nothing, sweet blue **** all, to maintain and upgrade the system.

Their utter incompetence, mismanagement and down right corrupt nature is showing more and more by the day. But sure, tell me how BEE and all the other shite racists policies are making SA a better place for all.

Thank you affirmative action. Thank you BEE. Thank you ANC. Thank you South African Government.

Thank you for turning the whole country into a failed state. No water. No electricity. No money. She is all gone.

This has been an issue since that explosion at the pumping station near @LazyLion a few years ago.

I bet it was never repaired properly.
