So the electrical goods element I can buy because of substandard materials being used.

The ICASA registration thing though, that is a bit harder to buy because ICASA don't do anything specific relating to Wifi/Mobile to verify the device behaves according to the specs as far as I'm aware.

If you buy something at half the usual price from a brand you've never heard of and do zero research on it then you only have your own lack of common sense to blame...

If SARS, and the Customs and Excise people allow them in, then they cannot be that bad, surely?

Or the local types, still crying about the market share they lose, due to their high prices by comparison.

Ive received fake goods from Takealot and returned it no problem. But when I leave a negative review about the product been fake they do not publish my review. You are dishonest @TAKEALOT

Had the same experience with tech products on takealot. in my case, it was a micro SD card not having the capacity advertised.

STC-1000 is just a model number. There are many different manufacturers using that model number for their temperature controllers.

So unless it says "Elitech" on the package but it's not made by Elitech ten it can't be considered a fake.

Yeah but go check that link I posted, they mention how to spot a fake and then when you get your STC-1000 the fake ticks every single box they mentioned. Bunch of liars

Haven't the cadres travelled this road recently.................

I see anger, I see dismissiveness. I even see blaming the individual consumer (a most misguided/misguiding sentiment), as if collectively tackling such issues are not the most effective.

It is a problem. Work should be made of it. Including at the government level. Our "dear" cadres have been too naive about the dangers of grey imports for too long. Even going so far as helping (being instrumental sometimes) to destroy certain international trade controls in the past. And seeing themselves as heroes for it. Wrong.

Sure as **** the repercussions have included even tragedies like children in Africa dying by the dozens, because they consumed fake medicine, plenty of times. I recall a case where "medicine" was tinted using printer toner... And that's still mild. Though exemplarity of the unfathomable callousness.
