South Africa's power lifeline frays as Eskom scrambles for diesel

Eskom being squeezed by PetroSA, another SOE:

All I see is PetroSA being an awesome business and making profit like they should. Eskom has been fcking over an entire country for over a decade with ridiculous increases. PetroSA is just saying, "hold my beer".

Except they're both SoEs, and PetroSA is technically profiting at the expense of the economy as a whole.

Hardly a great business model for any sort of longevity.

Inflated prices, the hallmark of an incompetent guava mint..

Africa doesn't understand democracy, and I guess its safe to say by now the ANC just wanted to eat delicious WMC cake.
The pretense otherwise only lasted through Mandela, Mbeki and Motlante for what its worth, all clever blacks like Zuma said.

You may want to read some of this report then.

All I can think is that they are bulking up RAF and other funds where its easier to pilfer.

Nah, they're trying to plug a huge fscking hole in PetroSA's balance sheet, at the expense of the country (but thats not unexpected from the ANC cadres really... bunch of short sighted fscking retards)

PetroSA collapsing would be just as bad as eskom I'd think. Both are a big requirement for food security amongst other things.

PetroSA collapsing would likely have minimal impact on peoples day to day lives, and private entities would fill the gap relatively quickly in my opinion.

The fact that government will use the coffers of a mission critical enterprise to backfill the balance sheet of a totally superfluous one is hugely telling in terms of their priorities and ability to grasp the fsckup we're in.

Eskom should consider handing out solar systems, burning a R100 Million a day is pointless. That money can be used to make us sustainable rather than burn fuel.

SA is a socialist country governed by communists. Energy generation belongs to the ANC.

Making as much profit as possible from the desperate who are dependent on your business is not a great business model? Since when? It's the best business model in history. Hence, funeral undertakers, lawyers, hospitals etc not knowing what a depression is.

You take too much profit from a mission critical entity that is on the verge of collapse and you could hasten its collapse.... its not a good long term business model, and even less so for a developmental state owned entity who's goal must be to help develop the country and the economy, when all they are doing at the moment is fscking it even harder for a short term gain.

The Wakanda Dawn coming soon...

when that happens, we'll have bountiful electricity, we'll drive EV's instead of petrol/diesel vehicles, we'll have a super high-speed railway, we'll have lots of smart cities...

yeah, right.

Viva ANC, Viva!
Viva the Emperor, Viva.

Why would I read that drivel? Mind giving me the reader's digest version? PetroSA also a fckup??

They've been on skidrow for many years now. That strange inability to be able to do long-term strategic planning has also left them without any raw material to work with.

I.e. they are proudly South African (registered trademark symbol)

I still don't see a problem with what they are doing. They are making profits in the only way they know how. Increase prices to people who have no choice but to accept. Eskom is doing it to a country.
