South Africa's second COVID-19 wave proves far deadlier than first wave

The second wave of COVID-19 in South Africa, which is driven by the new variant 501Y.V2, is far deadlier than the first wave, with nearly 20,000 deaths in two months.

The coronavirus outbreak in South Africa started in March 2020 and the number of infections peaked between 5 July and 11 July at over 13,000 new cases per day.

In September and October, there was a relatively quiet spell with between 1,000 and 2,000 new confirmed daily COVID-19 cases per day.

It was deadlier? What does that mean?

More people got infected, did a greater percentage of infected die?
From the article

"The number of deaths during the second wave is 158% higher than the first wave. The number of deaths per 1,000 cases is also much higher than the first wave."

Lets not forget the ANC NEC with a collective IQ of half that was mostly concerned with stealing the 500 billion, declared a state of emergency and completely shutdown the entire country implementing dumb-arse restrictions and obliterating the economy in under 3 months leaving zero room for any stricter measures post wave one, as the destruction of the economy during wave one will have far greater long term impact to the loss of life in South Africa...

All the blood is on the ANC's hands as none of the promised medical facilities are functional with most of the money meant to aid the nation already stolen

Off course the 2nd wave would be far deadlier, economically. As would the 3rd, 4th, etc waves be as well.

R500bn+ perished during the 1st wave. God help us when the numbers of the 2nd+ waves become apparent.

I do not believe a single stat number given to us by the government, it is all fear-mongering kak
So when all of the hospital records get submitted to Parliament at regular intervals, they just decide to artificially inflate the numbers by 50% because it will scare people into compliance?

Okay buddy.

If anything, poor hospital administration would suggest that the numbers are in fact under reported.

The mortality rate lags the infection rate by several weeks, so it is premature to calculate the CFR. Due to vagaries in the testing protocols, I wouldn't put too much credence on the actual case rate. I think we all know the number of deaths is higher.
