Some still look terrible, some fortunately for us look much much better. Nothing stands out, looks like work from one designer.

I'd love to see variety in our news sites, e.g. BBC, The Mirror, CNN, WSJ etc

Some sites seemed to have gone backwards tho, googles new layout for instance has a huge amount of wasted space...

The days of the internet startup's - where it was perfectly acceptable to have black background, yellow font (preferably in Comic Sans) with spinning animated GIFs all over the place. The most adventurous even went as far as having purple and pink backgrounds to just stand out. It's like watching Knight Rider or McGyver now...

Concerning the web sites for the 4 cellular providers, I have to say the one I like the most is Telkom Mobile, well laid out and user friendly. The worst IMHO is MTN....gosh I hate MTN's website, and avoid it at all costs
