Space travel rapidly drops out of the headlines when it becomes routine (and nothing blows up).
if its so routine, send Joe public into space with 1 month training.

take an average person, give them minimal training and see what happens.

have them sign their life away obviously, should they survive.
sure they could learn more from somebody who HASN'T spent the majority of their life pulling G's and getting master degrees in Chemical analysis.

I mean at some point it will happen, the average Joe will go into space, to do something menial,
best find out now what happens to him/her.

Very true.
One of the main secondary reasons the Apollo program was also scrapped. Once they kicked USSR arse, the rest just became routine and boring. The politicians could no longer afford to justfy spending a lot of money on something as routine as taking a bus trip to Wisconsin.
